Star Wars: Squadrons hasn’t been out for that long but fans are already replaying the main campaign. Players have fallen in love with the homages to the classic flight simulation games, as well as the online dogfights that has brought Squadrons to life.

Clearly there’s a lot of fun to be had with this experience set in a galaxy far far away, but like any other project in the Star Wars universe, there’s a lot more for players to uncover and secrets to unveil. There’s a great number of details and easter eggs that are hidden in plain sight that fans might only just be uncovering now that they are playing for a second time.

10 Definitive Cockpit

There’s been a lot of great ships across the Star Wars galaxy, but Squadrons marks really the first time players can fly them in this new, post Disney, canon universe. That means that these are the definitive versions of the cockpits of these ships.

Because the game itself is canon, it has had to include a few subtle details fans would have seen in the films, in regards to iconic ships like the TIE Fighters. However, additional details, which may have been mentioned in books and other mediums, are now permanently a part of these cockpit designs.

9 Alphabet Squadron

The Alphabet Squadron is a group of ships that has become pretty legendary in this universe. There’s a series of books about the crew of this Squadron and some of them have expanded into other mediums, such as a partnership with Marvel.

Early on into the game, fans may notice that Alphabet Squadron is mentioned, as if setting up a rivalry between the player’s own Squadron and of course the Rogue Squadron, against Alphabet themselves. It certainly could be looking to future sequels down the line.

8 The Original Tutorial

The original X-Wing game had a tutorial that saw players come up against these large cargo ships. The task of the player was to go through each piece of cargo and make sure that everything is as it should be, in order to teach the basic mechanics.

Fast forward to the modern generation of Star Wars games and these same cargo ships are back, bringing them into canon. There’s a sequence in the game where players must carry out a very similar task to that of the original X-Wing game, paying a great homage.

7 The Jedi Cruiser

Jedi Cruisers were a huge part of the Clone Wars era and were featured in both the animated shows and the prequel films, alongside the additional material surrounding this. They are iconic ships and go on to inspire some of the larger Empire based dreadnaughts.

During the game a destroyed version of the Jedi Cruiser can be seen, as players must navigate their way through a difficult situation. The first time around players might not recognise the husk of a ship, but this is a great nod to an event that happened during the prequel era.

6 Thrawn’s Fate

One of the great things about Squadrons is that it has the opportunity to bring in a whole range of characters from the expanded universe and bring them into the story. The creative team clearly wanted to have a mention of Admiral Thrawn somewhere in there.

However, in the part of the timeline when the game is set, Thrawn has actually gone missing. Information on the character can be found in holograms in the game and it confirms that his fate is still left unclear, meaning he really could be anywhere.

5 A Podracer

There’s a brilliant option to customise the inside of player’s ships further with various trinkets from across the galaxy. Many of these are recognisable easter eggs, but some players might have missed that there’s a connection to one of the universe’s favorite sports.

Podracing has been a bit of a joke for Star Wars fans ever since its inclusion in the prequel films. However, there’s a small podracer that fans can have put into their ship, that connects the game a little bit further to Anakin’s early days and The Phantom Menace.

4 Frisk’s Backstory

Frisk is the same species as Bossk the bounty hunter. They are both Trandoshan and his backstory actually connects to some earlier stories that fans may be familiar with. Frisk actually rejected his people and their traditions.

An episode of The Clone Wars depicted what it was like to be a Trandoshan who are known for being hunters. The episode saw these beasts hunt and kill off some Wookies. This is clearly a life Frisk didn’t want to lead, but his story is interesting in the context of the wider universe.

3 Hangar Announcements

A great thing about this game is that there’s so much history to draw from in regards to hold flight simulation experiences, that there’s plenty of places to draw inspiration from. There’s even a link to X-Wing Alliance in there!

Fans noticed that the 1990s game featured the exact same announcements, with the same voice actor, in the Rebel hanger. This makes the Star Wars galaxy feel just a little bit more authentic and some are even suggesting the voices connect to the original Battlefront games too.

2 Yavin-4

Yavin-4 is quite an important planet for the Star Wars timeline as it is well known for being the predominant base for the Rebels. While it didn’t fully play into this story, it did get a great cameo in an unexpected place.

Fans actually fly past the planet at a couple of points in the game and while there’s no DLC announced for the future, it’s hard to imagine that EA won’t take advantage of the pre-built model at some point and bring more Yavin into the game.

1 Links To Aftermath Trilogy

The trailers showcased that Rae Sloane would be making her first appearance outside of the novels and many fans weren’t actually sure who she was. The character stepped up a little more throughout the game, but there’s a great number of connections for those who read the books.

Featured in the Aftermath trilogy, the events of this game happen at around the same time. Therefore, they can be compared against one another and readers might even be able to spot a great deal of connections when replaying the game; right down to her possessing the same, beloved ship.
