10 Villains We Want To See In The MCU & Who We Think Should Play Them

For over 10 years, the MCU has dominated the box office with their hit superhero movies. Sure the heroes are the titular characters, saving the day and serving as a positive influence, but most movies are only as good as the conflict or the one causing the conflict for the titular character.

For some movie fans, it’s the villain that makes the movie, and the way the MCU makes the villains relatable also makes us love the villain more than the hero sometimes. Looking at the hundreds of villains in the MCU, let’s look at some that would make perfect additions to the movies and give out heroes some conflict and tension.

10 Doctor Doom – Alexander Skarsgård

Besides Thanos, one of the most intimidating and popular villains in Marvel is Doctor Doom. As a villain, he has affected a lot of heroes like the Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, and even the king of Wakanda himself, the Black Panther. He is the leader of the fictional country Latveria and he is one of the smartest people in the entire Marvel universe which makes him a very dangerous opponent for any hero to take on.

Since he is so powerful, bringing Doom in can be introduced in a crossover Avengers movie or he can be brought in with the rest of the Fantastic Four in their MCU debut. Since Doctor Doom is charismatic, arrogant, and a tad bit condescending, the actor playing the role needs to really nail this part of him. With experience playing both protagonists and antagonists, Alexander Skarsgard is the ideal candidate to capture the complexity of Doom.

9 Magneto – Jason Isaacs

We’ve seen some iterations of Magneto in the X-men movies, and he is definitely a fan favorite, played by two amazing actors. Introducing him into the MCU, he would be welcomed with open arms and can fit right in as a villain who gets under the hero’s skins. He also has legit motivations, some that make the audience question what side we should really be on.

Magneto is often misunderstood, and a little bit extreme but he isn’t necessarily a bad guy. Any actor playing him would have to be intimidating with his demeanor but also have a soft side to him. Veteran villain actor Jason Issacs has the perfect range to play this complicated character.

8 Doc Ock – Giancarlo Esposito

Arguably Spider-man’s most dangerous villain, Doc Ock is a very interesting character with some very questionable motivations and as one of the only villains to pretty much killing Spider-man, he would make a great addition to the MCU. Starting off as a simple scientist, he grew selfish with his knowledge and wanted to learn more, until he was corrupted by his bionic arms. Now, his plans for power and world domination make him a threat to the Marvel universe as a whole versus just Spidey.

Introducing him in the next Spider-man movie would be ideal for this character, but he also deserves a lot more recognition so we would need an actor who can play the villain in more than movie. One actor who is very experienced playing villains and giving them power is Giancarlo Esposito. He is well-spoken and just charming enough to wow the fans.

7 Apocalypse – Rick Worthy

Apocalypse is the first-ever mutant and arguably one of the most powerful, requiring all hands on deck to stop. As the first mutant, he expects everyone to follow him and worship as a God, meaning he isn’t a big fan of free will, explaining why he wouldn’t be liked too much by our Avengers.

Because he is a huge threat to humanity, introducing him in phase 5 would be ideal, he’s almost the perfect candidate to replace Thanos and also introduce mutants and the X-men into the MCU. Rick Worthy, best known for his role in the hit show The Magicians not only resembles Apocalypse but also has a booming voice and commanding presence to play this villain.

6 Blackheart – Bill Skarsgård

As the son of a literal demon, it’s safe to say that Blackheart is a force to be reckoned with. He’s mainly a villain to the Ghost Rider but has also gotten into some clashes with Spider-man and Daredevil when he attempted to take control of them. He’s arrogant, impulsive, and very evil, so he could be a big threat to one or more heroes.

Alex Skarsgård’s little brother Bill has made his claim to fame playing evil characters like the clown from IT and Hemlock Grove, so playing an inhuman character should be easy from him. And the fact he could nail the angsty brooding Blackheart does makes it a plus.

5 Lucia Van Bardas – Liv Tyler

Lucia Von Bardas is one of the characters from Doctor Doom’s country, eventually becoming the ruler of Latveria. She may not be as ruthless as Doom but she is every bit as arrogant and misguided, secretly selling weapons to criminals to give them the upper hand against heroes.

Lucia can play use her diplomatic position to avoid confrontation with the Avengers and her own powerset can put her toe to toe with some of the most powerful heroes. Lucia is good at maintaining her positive standing with the public and great at hiding her true intentions. A sophisticated actress like Liv Tyler would make the perfect candidate for Lucia.

4 Green Goblin – Damian Lewis

Batman has The Joker, Superman has Lex Luthor, Captain America has Red Skull, and Spider-Man has the Green Goblin. To not include this iconic villain in the latest iteration of Spider-man would be a crime and something fans may not be happy about considering how respected GG is.

Any actor that plays the Green Goblin doesn’t only need to understand the unpredictability and ruthlessness of the character but also needs to have experience being center stage on camera and having onscreen charisma to carry a movie like Michael Keaton or Jake Gyllenhaal. Emmy winner Damian Lewis may not be as accomplished as the two actors but he definitely has what it takes to man the Green Goblin.

3 Galactus – Liam Neeson

If Marvel Studios is looking for the next Avengers level threat, there is no threat bigger than Galactus. Similar to Thanos, Galactus was the sole survivor of his race and he evolved into the planet-absorbing giant we see in comics. Galactus would be the perfect addition to the MCU, not only because he is arguably more powerful than Thanos but also because he is much more complex and even expresses regret for his actions.

Galactus has a loud booming voice and a commanding presence, and he is well-spoken and wise. Legendary actor Liam Neeson would make the perfect Galactus, with his easily recognizable booming voice, and his experience playing iconic characters like Qui gon-Jin and Aslan in Narnia.

2 Mephisto – Williem Dafoe

If fans think Blackheart is scary, wait until they meet his dad. Mephisto is literally Satan, ruling a fiery dimension he calls Hell and very closely resembling the devil we know from the bible. Mephisto has taken on several of Marvel’s most powerful heroes including Doctor Strange, Thor, Iron Man, and the Silver Surfer, making him a perfect candidate for an appearance in the near future.

Anyone who plays Mephisto has to be a known villainous actor and who better to play him than Green Goblin actor and seasoned veteran Williem Dafoe. Dafoe can not only give us nightmare fueling expressions and can really pull off the explosive rage, but he is one of Hollywood’s best actors which makes him perfect for Mephisto.

1 Tiger Shark – Manu Bennett

Tiger Shark is a relatably unknown super-villain, but he is very dangerous. With the DNA of Namor and a Tiger Shark, he is half-man half-shark, with razor-sharp teeth and a hunger for human flesh.

He’s faced several heroes including Namor, Deadpool, The Hulk, and Spider-Man, and has even almost beat the Hulk. Any actor playing Tiger Shark needs to have both physical and mental intimidation. With experience playing a villain as iconic as Slade Wilson, Manu Bennett is the perfect guy for the role.
