Marvel Studios is committed to withholding its Phase 4 slate until later this summer, conveniently around the time that their next movie comes out, Spider-Man: Far From Home. While Avengers: Endgame concluded the Infinity Saga with some interesting sequel setups, nothing definitive was confirmed for the franchise’s characters’ future. With Far From Home introducing the multiverse and a hole that’s been torn in reality, as well as giving audiences a glimpse at the in-universe world post-Endgame, Spidey’s latest adventure could be setting up more than just his own threequel.

10 Nick Fury will explain what everyone’s up to

In the Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer, Spidey immediately states the obvious when Nick Fury recruits him to deal with the multiverse: that someone more qualified like Captain Marvel or Doctor Strange should be handling it. Fury has an excuse for everyone, but the trailer skips over them very quickly.

Maybe in the actual movie, this scene will be a little longer, with Fury rattling off a comprehensive list of Easter eggs that point to every character’s future. For example, he could say that Thor is off searching for Gamora with the Guardians of the Galaxy or Doctor Strange is trying to retrieve the Time Stone. It could answer a lot of questions.

9 Professor Hulk helps Peter navigate the multiverse

In Avengers: Endgame, a cross between the genius-level intellect of Bruce Banner and the monstrous, green-skinned brawn of the Hulk that has been dubbed “Professor Hulk” by fans – or “Smart Hulk” by Kevin Feige – helps to invent time travel. He dons the Iron Gauntlet to do the first of two world-saving finger-snaps, bringing everybody back, and in the aftermath of the final battle, we see him wearing a sling on the recovering Gauntlet arm.

As long as he’s not doing anything else and the Avenger who formerly mentored Peter Parker is dead, Professor Hulk could help Peter navigate the multiverse, setting up a new surrogate father-son relationship. They both just lost someone dear to them and they have a lot in common, so it makes sense.

8 Hydro-Man awakens Namor the Sub-Mariner

In Avengers: Endgame, after the five-year time jump and before Scott Lang returns from the Quantum Realm with the “time heist” idea, Okoye mentions that there has been an earthquake under the ocean off the coast of Wakanda, which she says they will handle “by not handling it.”

Some fans have taken this as a reference to the MCU presence of Namor the Sub-Mariner, who was teased as far back as Iron Man 2 when Atlantis appeared on Nick Fury’s S.H.I.E.L.D. map. Perhaps Hydro-Man in Spider-Man: Far From Home will tie into this, awakening Namor or bringing him to the surface.

7 The X-Men and the Fantastic Four emerge from the multiverse

When Peter Parker is first told about the multiverse in the Far From Home trailer, he identifies it as such immediately. He gets the science of it and is familiar with the concept. Since Disney has just acquired a bunch of Marvel characters from Fox, they’ll probably be eager to get the X-Men and the Fantastic Four into the MCU.

Given that the Fantastic Four have always been older heroes and there are generations upon generations of X-Men, the multiverse seems to be the best way to introduce them. It’ll also help to keep the Avengers-verse from becoming too crowded.

6 Spidey meets the Eternals

Although Avengers: Endgame was clearly the MCU’s big finish, with an explosive final battle that incorporated every single character we’ve come to know and love since 2008, it wasn’t actually the final film in Phase 3. Spider-Man: Far From Home will be taking on that responsibility, and it seems unlikely that Marvel would make that decision without the Spidey sequel going out with a bang.

We already know that Marvel Studios is working on a movie about the Eternals starring Angelina Jolie and Richard Madden, so maybe the Celestials’ genetic improvement of the human race will first appear in Far From Home.

5 Captain Marvel teams up with Spidey

Carol Danvers insinuated in Avengers: Endgame that her attendance in the MCU would be pretty spotty, which was explained away by the fact that she spends her days hopping from planet to planet, helping people on a cosmic scale, so she can’t be spending too much time on Earth.

However, she did share a really sweet moment with Peter Parker in the final battle sequence of Endgame, so it would be great to see them team up in Far From Home – especially since Nick Fury will be featured heavily as Parker’s new mentor in the movie and Danvers has a pre-existing relationship with him.

4 Peter Parker announces to the world that he’s Spider-Man

Avengers: Endgame wrapped up the 22-film arc that is being referred to as “the Infinity Saga.” This is the saga that began with Iron Man, so it ended with his death. Spider-Man: Far From Home is the first chapter in a new saga. Iron Man kicked off the Infinity Saga by ending with Tony Stark announcing his superhero identity to the world, so Far From Home could end with Peter Parker doing the same thing.

The ever-growing list of characters who already know Peter is Spider-Man now includes Aunt May and M.J., so there are very few people left who are close to him to hide this from.

3 Multiple Spider-Mans appear from the multiverse

Spider-Man: Far From Home is following up the epic conclusion of the Infinity Saga as the first chapter of a new saga that will likely be just as long and end with a 35-year-old Tom Holland sacrificing himself to save the world and saying goodbye to his eager teenage protégé (this cycle might continue until long after we’re all dead).

Spidey is taking the torch from Iron Man and starting a new MCU saga. The most shocking way to do that would be to have more than one Spider-Man in the movie. This would also be a neat way for Marvel and Sony to keep their Spidey movies separate, yet still set in the same universe.

2 Mysterio forms the Sinister Six

Tom Holland’s Spider-Man already has the Vulture after him and now, Mysterio is joining the fold, while one of the Elementals looks an awful lot like Sandman and there are even rumors that the Chameleon will appear.

One of the best guesses at what the post-credits scene following Far From Home will be is the formation of the Sinister Six, building on both the MCU’s Spider-Man narrative and Sony’s Spider-Man-based cinematic universe. The MCU producers have already said that Spider-Man: Far From Home isn’t setting up the Sinister Six, but that technically wouldn’t be Far From Home setting up the Sinister Six. But we know Marvel always likes to keep fans guessing.

1 A new Avengers team is lined up

Many fans expected Avengers: Endgame to end with the core team members, such as Iron Man and Captain America, retiring from the team and leaving it behind to a new generation of heroes. However, it actually ended with the whole organization disbanding following the death of Tony Stark and the time travel-related aging of Steve Rogers.

Now that the multiverse is open for business and the very fabric of reality is in a tailspin, the world needs a new Avengers team. Spider-Man: Far From Home could end with Fury recruiting Peter Parker for such a team – maybe called “the Protectors,” as was his original idea – that includes Captain Marvel, Black Panther, Doctor Strange, and every other new hero leading the MCU’s future.
