10 Upgrades Make The Lordsworn’s Straight Sword Usable

There is nothing particularly exciting about the Lordsworn’s Straight Sword, but it is an early-game acquisition with potential. It can be dropped by Godrick Soldiers at the Gatefront Ruins and by a Mausoleum Soldier at the Fourth Church of Marika.

It should be upgraded to keep it relevant and on par with other swords. It can be especially useful for the first few hours of gameplay. Appropriate upgrades, applying Greases, and fixing a good Ash of War to it can make this basic weapon appear much more useful and exciting.

The standard Greataxe may not be the flashiest of weapons, but it doesn’t need to be. It can be found inside a chest on a wagon that’s pulled by Trolls to the west of Waypoint Ruins in Limgrave. Its lack of a fancy name or a gimmick would suggest that it is the weakest of its weapon class, but this is not the case.

It requires players to have 30 Strength and 8 Dexterity to wield and deals a hefty amount of damage with its heavy swings. With enough upgrades from Smithing Stones, the Greataxe can become one of the most unassumingly devastating weapons in the entire game, providing players choose an appropriate Ash of War.

8 The Longbow Has a Surprisingly Long Shelf Life If Used Correctly

If players are looking to inflict maximum damage from afar then they will likely look elsewhere in terms of ranged weapons. Yet, the simplicity of the Longbow can still see it become an integral part of any player’s loadout. Upgrades will improve its damage output, but this bow can still be useful for distracting enemies and gradually chipping away at their health.

Being fully upgraded at +25 will see the Longbow reach almost 200 base physical attack power, only requiring regular Smithing Stones. At the very least, the upgraded Longbow can be a placeholder until the player makes it further in the game.

7 The Iron Greatsword Can Deal Huge Damage With Enough Upgrades

Surprisingly, the Iron Greatsword is seen as a late-game weapon. However, with enough upgrades and the right Ash of War, it can be an end-game sword. It is a drop from defeating red-maned Misbegotten in Leyndell, Ordina, and Miquella’s Haligtree.

It only requires 18 Strength and 10 Dexterity to wield, but its weight can be felt by the user as well as the foes. Appropriate upgrades will see its physical attack power soar above 300, making it a deadly weapon and an exceptional improvement on its base self.

6 The Original Whip May Not Have The Unique Design But Has Flexibility In Its Purpose

It may require a hefty 38 Strength to be wielded, as well as 12 Dexterity and 15 Intelligence, but it is a terrific weapon. 3 The Original Twinblade Is Exceptional Early On

The Twinblade is found as early as the Dragon-Burnt Ruins and scales with both Strength and Dexterity. The weapon looks aesthetically pleasing. With enough upgrades, it can also become an extremely useful addition to any loadout.

Two-handing this weapon unlocks even more possibilities. Players can perform even more spinning combos and with the right Ash of War, it can be a devastating weapon beyond just the early stages of the game. There are numerous other Twinblades to be obtained throughout Elden Ring, but the original still holds up.

2 Bloodhound’s Fang Is One Of Elden Ring’s Best Swords When Upgraded

Bloodhound’s Fang is an exceptional Curved Greatsword and there is a reason why so many players use it. It can be obtained relatively early in Elden Ring (after defeating Bloodhound Knight Darriwil in Limgrave) and only requires 18 Strength and 17 Dexterity to wield it.

It may be locked in to its skill of Bloodhound’s Finesse, but this move deals considerable damage before taking a leap away from the foe. This avoids close-range strikes and if timed right, can even leap over sweeping attacks. It requires Somber Smithing Stones to upgrade, but the upgrades are certainly worth it.

1 The Uchigatana Is Lethal With Enough Upgrading

The katana will always be one of the more popular weapon types in a game of so many. While there are several options to choose from, the Uchigatana is an early-game acquisition that can last the entire game with the right upgrades.

The players who choose the Samurai class get an Uchigatana from the get-go. Otherwise, it can be found in the Death-Touched Catacombs in Stormhill, Limgrave. There may be flashier katanas on show but the Uchigatana will stay at the top for its ease in acquiring and wielding, as well as the endless possibilities it provides.
