100Inch TVs LG 97Inch TV Rumored For 2022 But Samsung Is Going Even Larger

Both LG and Samsung are rumored to be launching new massive TVs in the coming years. TVs have been getting larger over the past decade or so, and it’s not just TVs either. The same can also be said about smartphones, with some models entering mini tablet territory. Of course, in many scenarios bigger displays enable manufacturers to pack in more technology, or larger batteries in the case of smartphones.

Small TVs are often associated with a worse picture quality and a cheaper price, but LG’s smallest OLED TV is 48 inches and was first introduced in 2020. Before then, 55-inch was the smallest OLED TV LG had sold. There seems to be a “sweet spot” of between 55 and around 77-inches when it comes to modern TVs. While this range seems to be the most common for manufactures and shoppers, how large can a TV get before it is too large?

Well, Samsung and LG reportedly plan to add even more ultra-large TVs to the market. According to Korea Bizwire, Samsung is planning to release a 99-inch microLED television by the end of this year, which will complement the already massive 110-inch microLED TV the company announced late last year. Meanwhile, LG is planning to release a massive 97-inch OLED TV by the end of next year. For reference, LG’s largest OLED TV is currently 88 inches.

The Bigger The Better?

In spite of the growing interest in microLED, LG has been leading the way with its OLED panels. Even when shopping other brands for an OLED TV, LG is usually the one that supplies the panel, while the OEM customizes it with custom processors, speakers, and so on. MicroLED is still a relatively new display tech that’s being used by a small number of manufacturers, including Samsung. Only time will tell which display tech will reign supreme and eventually take over the TV market.

Regardless of the type of technology used, how big is too big? TVs are already taking up a ton of space in living rooms, and ultra-large TVs could potentially take up an entire wall. Of course, one of the biggest challenges for buying an ultra-large TV is often the price. For example, Samsung’s 110-inch microLED TV reportedly retails for around $150,000, which is (obviously) way more than most consumers are willing to pay for a TV. However, if money and space is not a problem, then there might not be a limit on how big is too big for a TV and especially when looking for a stunning viewing experience.
