Updated on December 20, 2021, by Lynn Gibbs: Once winter strikes, Nickeloden fans want to know the best SpongeBob Christmas episodes to watch. And while SpongeBob SquarePants doesn’t have too many episodes dedicated to the spirit of Christmas, the show does have a few winter-themed episodes to cozy up to. Many didn’t realize it could snow in Bikini Bottom, but when it does, SpongeBob, Patrick, and yes, even Squidward know how to make it magical.

11 “Out Of The Picture” – 5.3

11 Of The Best Winter SpongeBob Episodes Ranked (According To IMDb)

Fans ranked “Out of the Picture” as the worst winter-themed episode of SpongeBob SquarePants. It was the 10th episode of season 10 and revolved around Squidward’s art.

Spongebob fans pitied Squidward when he tried selling his art at the Krusty Krab. But when Mr. Krabs shut it down, he sent Squidward to Antarctica to bring the art to a big-time buyer. It was in the snowy land that Squidward encountered a snow sponge. Funny enough, SpongeBob was already in Antarctica eating ice by the time Squidward got there. They then sell frozen Krabby Patties to a nearby whale before heading back to Bikini Bottom to sell more art. This was a fun-loving episode that brought Squidward and SpongeBob together in a snowy terrain that was unlike their norm.

10 “SpongeBob’s Road To Christmas” – 6.7

11 Of The Best Winter SpongeBob Episodes Ranked (According To IMDb)

In season 13, SpongeBob, Patrick, and Plankton traveled to the North Pole to meet Santa themselves and give him a gift after SpongeBob forgot to give him it on Christmas Day. Plankton tagged along as a way to put his name back on Santa’s good list, of course. The three got derailed and in one of SpongeBob’s funniest live-action scenes, thought that Patchy the Pirate was Santa. Eventually, they found themselves in the North Pole talking to Santa.

The adventurous tale of the three made this one of the highest-ranking episodes and one of the jolliest holiday-related episodes.

9 “Kwarantined Krab” – 7.3

11 Of The Best Winter SpongeBob Episodes Ranked (According To IMDb)

“Kwarantined Krab” isn’t a typical winter-themed episode for the show, but it does showcase the flu season when Mr. Krabs came down with the Clam Flu. A health inspector assumed the restaurant was ill and placed everyone who worked at the Krusty Krab or eating inside it under quarantine. They locked the doors and protected the windows so no one could get out.

Winterscapes kicked in when SpongeBob was seen having a great time in the restaurant’s freezer. From sledding to eating ice cream, SpongeBob viewed quarantine as a sleepover with his best friends. The group even had a snowball fight in the Krusty Krab freezer

8 “It’s A SpongeBob Christmas!” – 7.4

11 Of The Best Winter SpongeBob Episodes Ranked (According To IMDb)

“It’s a SpongeBob Christmas” was the 23rd episode of the eighth season. To celebrate the holidays, this special episode had a longer run time. It was Christmastime in the episode and Bikini Bottom was excited for Santa. As always, Plankton had an evil plan up his sleeve: to deliver fruit cake filled with “Jerktonium” to Bikini Bottom to ruin Christmas cheer. He also put all of Bikini Bottom on Santa’s naughty list, making him one of the least liked characters.

SpongeBob helped deliver the fruit cake (unaware of the Jerktonium) and the entire city was soon filled with angry people. Plankton was seen as the only one on the good list and was happily greeted by Santa while everyone else was on the naughty list for being jerks. SpongeBob then had to save Christmas to get in Santa’s good graces again. This seasonal episode was a beloved one and was animated in claymation.

7 “Frozen Face-Off” – 7.5

Season 8’s “Frozen Face-Off” celebrated winter with a sled competition. Everyone in Bikini Bottom entered because the prize was $1 million. SpongeBob had Gary leading his sled, Patrick chose gummy worms to take him to victory, and Squidward had a worm (who chose to sip tea instead of win the race).

While everyone was trying to win the cash prize, Plankton was busy trying to steal the Krabby Patty secret recipe. When the gang realized what Plankton was up to, they attempted to make a detour to the Krusty Krab. Shockingly, they froze while doing so. Sandy made a fire to warm everyone up so that they could save the day (and hopefully win some cash). The adventure of this episode is what gave it a high rating because it showed how every character’s mind worked in a given obstacle.

6 “Plankton’s Old Chum” – 7.8

11 Of The Best Winter SpongeBob Episodes Ranked (According To IMDb)

“Plankton’s Old Chum” was part of season 12 and showed Plankton creating a fake holiday for his own benefit. Most of Plankton’s best episodes revolve around him at the Chum Bucket, and this was no different. Plankton realized that he had nowhere to dump old chum. When he ran into SpongeBob, he convinced him that it’s Chum Day — a holiday similar to Christmas. On this day, a person is supposed to hand out chum as gifts.

SpongeBob fell for it and takes Plankton’s old chum off his hands and spread it around Bikini Bottom. When the city became angry over the filth, SpongeBob convinced them it’s a holiday! But just as SpongeBob got the whole city on board, the health inspector deemed Bikini Bottom too filthy and put the blame back on Plankton. The hilarious premise of this episode is what gives it such a high score.

5 “Shopping List” – 7.8

“Shopping List” doesn’t include Santa or snowball fights but it does include cold-living yeti. In the episode, Mr. Krabs gave SpongeBob an intense shopping list with odd things that aren’t easily found. Sandy decided to help SpongeBob since she was a touch braver than he was, especially when it came to taking the hair of a yeti.

A yeti is a large, mythical creature that tends to live in colder elements, surrounded by snow and caves. Sandy and SpongeBob got the job done when it came to the yeti’s hair, but the Yeti eventually tracked them down to get it back. It was a small touch of winter magic that entered Bikini Bottom that fans loved.

4 “Krabs Á La Mode” – 8.2

11 Of The Best Winter SpongeBob Episodes Ranked (According To IMDb)

Season 5’s “Krabs a la Mode” showed Mr. Krabs turning the Krusty Krab into an unintentional ice rink for the winter season. For Squidward, turning down the heat when it was frigid temperatures in Bikini Bottom was one of the worst things Mr. Krabs could have done. Due to the expenses, Mr. Krabs set an alarm at the Krusty Krab so that no one could turn up the heat. At the same time, Plankton turned the thermostat as cold as it could get to drive customers out of the Krusty Krab and into the Chum Bucket.

Thanks to the chill, Mr. Krabs turned the Krusty Krab into an ice rink, complete with Krusty Krab-themed skates and activities. Plankton becomes enraged that his plan failed and tries to stir the pot even more. The idea of an ice rink inside of a fast food joint made this episode a standout.

3 “Survival Of The Idiots” – 8.8

In the second season, SpongeBob and Patrick went over to Sandy’s house to play but find her entire dome covered in a shield with a sign that said, “Keep out.” The two snuck in to find Sandy asleep. However, Sandy didn’t look like Sandy — she was much larger and fuzzier than before. The two best friends realized that Sandy was hibernating for the winter but play in her snow-filled tree dome anyway. What happened next was an adventure against a mean, hibernating squirrel.

2 “Christmas Who?” – 8.9

11 Of The Best Winter SpongeBob Episodes Ranked (According To IMDb)

“Christmas Who?” was a SpongeBob special that’s seen as one of Nickelodeon’s toph holiday specials. In it, Sandy was decorating her tree and gearing up for Christmas. SpongeBob and Patrick never heard of Christmas and learned everything about it from Sandy. SpongeBob told Bikini Bottom about the holiday and Santa Claus and got everyone on board.

Bikini Bottom soon became a Christmas wonderland (with the exception of Squidward), but when Santa failed to appear on Christmas morning, Squidward took it upon himself to become Santa and give cheer to Bikini Bottom. This was a huge episode for Squidward and proved that he didn’t hate everyone as much as he said he did.

1 “Snowball Effect” – 9.2

‘Snowball Effect’ is the highest-ranked winter-themed episode in the SpongeBob universe thus far. It was released in season 3 and showed Bikini Bottom under a blanket of snow after an iceberg crashed above.

SpongeBob and Patrick proved they were BFF goals when they spent the episode having a snowball fight, but things took a turn when Squidward got involved. The three built forts to protect themselves from the snowballs but Squidward went too far and realized he was having more fun than he thought he would. Nothing makes SpongeBob fans happier than when Patrick, SpongeBob, and Squidward get along.
