10 True Blood Plot Inconsistencies That Make No Sense

True Blood has been a wild ride from the beginning, but despite this, plot inconsistencies that make no sense have fans asking some big questions.

True Blood is easily one of the wildest shows in television history. The vampire drama never had a dull moment and from maenads to werewolves to shape-shifters and faeries, almost every supernatural species in the world can be spotted in Bon Temps. The show was of course, loosely based on the successful The Southern Vampire Mysteries series written by Charlaine Harris, however, HBO took some major liberties with the storylines and the fandom still has some questions.

There are so many things about Bon Temps and its inhabitants that baffle the fans of the show. The show lasted for seven seasons and while its finale was hailed as a ‘cop-out’ by many fans, the show still remains as one of the most interesting franchises on TV. But there are still some crucial plot inconsistencies that need explaining …

10 Why Didn’t The Queen Rush Bill?

One of the most glaring plot holes in True Blood was Vampire Queen Sophie-Anne’s arrangement with Bill. The Queen of Louisiana sends Bill to Bon Temps to collect data on Sookie’s origins after she finds out about Sookie’s telepathic abilities from Sookie’s cousin, Hadley. But why wouldn’t she keep tabs on what Bill is up to?

Fans didn’t even know about her existence until Bill had to go to her to seek help about the maenad problem. Sophie-Ann knew all about Bill and Sookie’s relationship but didn’t even bother to check in with Bill about what he had discovered about Sookie’s origins or her powers.

9 How Did Jason Give Up V So Easily?

Jason basically puts his life in danger to score some vampire blood after he gets addicted to it. He meets Amy, a fellow addict, they go off on a bender together, and a couple of days later, Jason doesn’t seem to want V at all. While Amy is obviously an addict and does not want to give up vampire blood, Jason doesn’t seem to miss it at all.

This is hardly believable since vampire blood is highly powerful and addictive and Jason was going to extreme lengths to score some V just a few episodes back.

8 How Was Andy Able To Cover Up Jason’s Crime?

Bon Temps may be a small town, but it’s unbelievable that their justice system is so lax, especially when there have been so many murders in the area. There would obviously be some state intervention or a task force assigned to the cases.

When Jason shoots Eggs, Andy takes the blame on himself and tells everyone that Eggs was attacking him and he shot him in self-defense. But a basic ballistics report would have determined that the bullet wasn’t fired by Andy but from someone who was standing quite far away.

7 Maryann’s Situation Just Doesn’t Make Sense

How long has Maryann actually been in Bon Temps? Deputy Kenya seems to know about her acts of kindness, which means she has been living in the area for a while. But why didn’t more people know that the mansion wasn’t her own? Why hadn’t she tried to find Sam before she met Tara?

She seemed to have a reputation as a social worker, but she was never shown doing any charity, except letting two people stay with her. Since everyone is so nosy about other people in the town, it seems impossible that Maryann’s flamboyant lifestyle would go conveniently unnoticed.

6 How Did Eric Escape Louisiana?

How could Eric possibly leave Louisiana after killing the King’s Consort, Talbot? Not only is the king’s manor heavily guarded by vampires and werewolves, but it seems impossible that Eric would have been able to leave Louisiana at all after committing this big a crime.

After killing Talbot, Eric reaches Fangtasia to help Pam out, but it seems very improbable that he would be able to leave town after what he did, especially since Russell could immediately sense what had happened. Eric would, at least, be chased by some of his guards.

5 How Did Eric Know Russell Had Killed His Family?

Eric finds his father’s royal Scandinavian crown in Russell’s antiquities collection, but how can this alone be proof that Russell killed Eric’s father, the king? The flashback showed a pack of werewolves butchering Eric’s father and a wolf taking the crown over to a hooded figure standing at a distance.

Considering Russell is an ancient vampire and given his history of working with werewolves, Eric immediately assumes that the hooded figure was Russell. But it’s possible that it was someone from Russell’s coven or maybe Russell just happened to have acquired the crown from some other vampire. It’s bizarre that Eric would plot something so dangerous to avenge his father’s death before even confirming his suspicions.

4 Bon Temps’ Supernatural Population

Bon Temps is a very small town with a population of around 2,700 and it is inhabited by almost every supernatural species that exists in the world. Besides vampires, the town also boasts of werewolves, shape-shifters, faeries, mediums, witches, maenads, were-panthers, brujos, and more.

It would make sense for supernaturally gifted individuals to choose a small town so as to avoid detection but it’s impossible that everyone would choose that town to be Bon Temps.

3 Why Isn’t There A Fix To Glamoring?

True Blood is set in a world where humans are dealing with an enormous sense of paranoia as they try to co-exist with vampires. Turns out “glamoring” is a kind of immediate hypnosis only vampires can perform and it’s something the humans are aware of.

Since there are such well-established rules and policies in place to help the two species live together, it’s unlikely that glamoring would be legal and would go unpunished. How have humans not come up with a hack for protecting themselves against glamoring, which can be potentially deadly?

2 Why Isn’t Newlin Punished By Vampires?

The vampire community has stringent laws for any human or vampire that endangers their species. Steve Newlin, who’s a televangelist and founder of the anti-vampire group Fellowship of the Sun, kidnaps Eric’s maker, Godric, who’s an ancient vampire. His church also tries to perform a vampire sacrifice ritual and openly talk about ending vampires as a species.

It’s baffling how the vampire authorities would let this behavior go unchecked. Newlin would at least be disciplined by the magister for his crimes against vampires.

1 Why Aren’t There Strict Laws Regarding Turning?

In a world where vampires and humans co-exist and humans can be turned into vampires quite easily, there would obviously be some very strict laws against turning humans into vampires. Even if turning was made legal in certain cases, the government would certainly be involved in the process, much like in weddings or in deaths.

But in True Blood, vampires can turn humans without having to explain themselves to anyone. It seems very strange that neither the human nor vampire authorities would be so disinterested in something so absolutely crucial to their survival.
