15 Shows & Movies With Werewolves If You Miss Teen Wolf

For fans of Teen Wolf, the post series blues haven’t gone away. Here are ten films and shows to fill the Beacon Hills void in our hearts.

For viewers of the television series Teen Wolf, the feeling of post series blues still hasn’t gone away. The series, scoring 80% on Rotten Tomatoes, started in 2011 and lasted until 2017, releasing 6 seasons of werewolf goodness for its dedicated audience. The plot followed high school teenager Scott McCall as he navigated his way through school life while hiding the fact that he’s a werewolf.

And although the cast of the series has no doubt gone on to work in a diverse range of film and television, the audience has been left wanting more of their favorite supernatural creature. The following list of werewolf movies and television shows have similar feelings of teenage nostalgia, coming of age elements, curious spins on the classic werewolf, and some tropes that viewers of Teen Wolf, would be interested in.

Werewolves, vampires, and other supernatural creatures have become the focus of several shows and movies over the years that range from gripping and violent dramas to hilarious comedies about basic struggles that supernatural creatures endure in their lives. Teen Wolf covered both the violent drama while balancing the show out with enough comedy to ease the tension, here are some more shows and movies to watch now that Teen Wolf has ended.

15 MOVIE: Blood & Chocolate (2007)

Blood & Chocolate brings cheesy teen romance and violent werewolf moments similar to Teen Wolf as it tells the story of a young woman who hides the fact that she’s a werewolf. She falls for a human and it incites a fight between her pack as other werewolves were interested in dating her and think she shouldn’t be with a human. Although it doesn’t have great reviews, the movie came before the Twilight age of romance and supernatural creatures and is worth checking out.

14 TV SHOW: Being Human

Being Human began as a British show about three supernatural roommates; a nervous werewolf, an unstable but lovable vampire, and a kind and caring ghost and has also been re-made into an American version where both series have good reviews. The British version mainly focuses on the three characters; George, Mitchell, and Annie, but also brings in other supernatural beings like zombies throughout the series. The show has a similar balance between serious drama and violence and comedy that Teen Wolf has.

13 MOVIE: What We Do In The Shadows (2014)

What We Do in the Shadows was a mockumentary movie that mainly followed a group of vampires living together in New Zealand and dealing with daily roommate issues like whose turn it is to do the dishes. It’s a hilarious look at the daily lives of vampires that don’t always involve violence and although there’s a lot of laughs there’s also a lot of drama, violence, and heart to this movie. The main trio of vampires runs into a group of werewolves frequently throughout the movie and it causes a lot of hilarious tension. The movie has also become an FX series of the same name that follows a new group of vampires and other supernatural creatures.

12 TV SHOW: Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina

The Netflix series Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is a darker version of Sabrina Spellman’s story of her life as a witch and living with her two aunts. The series has storylines concerning Sabrina’s life in high school and her potential romantic partners within her life as a witch and dealing with the larger occult community, which is a similar setup to Teen Wolf. Although werewolves aren’t the main focus, they still show up frequently throughout the show.

11 *MOVIE: The Wolfman (2010)

The Wolfman is a more serious and violent movie that doesn’t have a lot of comedy to offset its brutality, but it’s still worth checking out for fans of Teen Wolf. Although this movie might not have comedy, there’s a lot of romance involved between the two main characters Larry (Benicio del Toro) and Gwen (Emily Blunt) but everything becomes complicated when Larry is turned into a werewolf and learns from his father (Anthony Hopkins) that being a werewolf might run in the family.

10 TV SHOW: Vampire Diaries

The Vampire Diaries ran from 2009 to 2017 with 8 seasons, so get ready to binge-watch. The show is about Damon and Stefan Salvator and their connection to a small town called Mystic Falls, specifically with a girl in it named Elena Gilbert. As the series progresses, vampires, witches, and werewolves make an appearance. Although the series is technically all about Vampires, hence its name, werewolves do have a big part to play in all the drama and romance. 9 MOVIE: Ginger Snaps (2000)

Ginger Snaps is a movie about two teenage sisters, Ginger and Brigitte Fitzgerald who must fight their inner demons and the inevitable transformation of becoming werewolves after an attack. As the sisters try and find a cure, they realize their bond is at stake and a pact they made when they were younger is in danger of being broken. Ginger Snaps is classified as horror as it is quite brutal to watch with there being many attacks and some disturbing content. It is rated 89% on Rotten Tomatoes.

8 TV SHOW: Shadowhunters

Based on the Mortal Instruments novel series by Cassandra Clare, Netflix’s Shadowhunters ran from 2016 to 2019 and finished with a total of 3 seasons. Clary Fray, a normal, artistic teenager, discovers she comes from a line of Shadowhunters and joins The Institute along with Jace, Alec, and Isabelle. Shadowhunters are humans with angelic blood who are tasked with hunting down demons. Werewolves are demons. But the twist of this series is that a whole new perception of Werewolves is created, and their roles in the fantasy world are given a heroic twist.

7 MOVIE: An American Werewolf In London (1981)

Taking the classic route of a poor student being attacked by a creature they know not of, An American Werewolf In London follows two young American backpackers, David and Jack, on a trekking trip in England. Unfortunately for the protagonists of this film, casualties occur and sacrifices are made when the town goers deny any suspicious happenings and a werewolf comes out to play. With 87% on Rotten Tomatoes, the film is classified as a horror with a dash of comedy to carry through some humor in a perilous situation.

6 TV SHOW: Supernatural

With a 93% on Rotten Tomatoes and the show recently ending with 15 seasons, Supernatural brings its characters to life with a dedicated cast list of which includes Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Misha Collins, and Mark Sheppard. The series is about two brothers, Sam and Dean Winchester who are tasked with hunting and handling supernatural creatures who are disrupting the peace on Earth.

The two find they must undertake a journey to answer the questions of their past. Although the series is a horror, the comedy brought to the show is parallel to the grief and shock it causes the viewers to feel.

5 MOVIE: Goosebumps (2015)

Goosebumps is based on the books of the same name by author R.L. Stine. The Goosebumps movie was released in 2015 and starred Jack Black, Dylan Minette, and Odeya Rush. The perception of a werewolf being a monster is solidified in this take on the ancient creature. The premise of the movie is focused around R.L. Stine’s book creations escaping into the real world and causing a threat to society. The werewolf that has been released is from his book The Werewolf Of Fever Swamp. The viewers also experience a creepy puppet and a little bit of romance along the way.

4 TV SHOW: Grimm

Grimm is a show where fairy tales come out to play in a darker, more loyal to the original Brothers Grimm kind of way. Nick Burkhardt is a Portland Oregon detective whose life and career are suddenly changed to include the stuff he used to believe were childhood stories. The transformation of the seemingly normal-looking humans to fantastical creatures is an interesting watch and a funny werewolf sidekick gives life to Nick’s characterization. The two interact with what could only be called unease, to begin with, but become increasingly brotherly in their partnership. The show ran from 2011 to 2017 and has a score of 89% on Rotten Tomatoes.

3 MOVIE: The Twilight Saga (2008-2012)

Based on the best-selling novel series by Stephanie Myer, Twilight became a successful movie series consisting of five movies released from 2008 through to 2012. The premise of the books and their movie adaptations follows Bella Swan, a teenager who moved to a town called Forks to live with her father Charlie. In what seems a matter of moments, Bella is swept into the world of the supernatural and falls in love with a vampire, Edward Cullen. Bella’s childhood friend, Jacob Black is a werewolf and a protective one at that.

2 TV SHOW: The Order

The Order is a Netflix original series that launched its first 10 episode season in 2019. The show has a solid 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The series is about University student Jack Morton who joins a society that ultimately puts him in between two sides of a magical battle. A battle between those of dark magic and werewolves. But Jack has a mission of his own that the show focuses on.

1 MOVIE: Teen Wolf (1985)

Before there was the Teen Wolf television series, there was the 1985 Teen Wolf movie starring Back To The Future’s time-traveling Michael J. Fox. Unlike most movies about werewolves, the protagonist of this movie, Scott Howard, has a hereditary curse that causes his transformation. Instead of the movie being a gory, suspense-filled thriller, it’s a cheesy classic high school cult movie about having trouble fitting in, wanting to get the girl, and being noticed by the all so important peers, all while using whatever means possible to get somewhere and be somebody.
