Lucifer’s success has been possible due to the titular protagonist’s mischievous personality, alongside the blend of comedy and police procedural format. While there might not be an exactly similar series to it, there are certain that come very close.

Fans are always searching for suitable shows that will capture their interest. There’s good news on that front since fans still have a number of choices to select from. The Vampire Diaries is a teen drama that was a hit on the CW and developed a huge fanbase even years after its end. It’s also a huge hit amongst Lucifer fans for its intense supernatural storyline. The show is based on the book series of the same name by L.J. Smith.

A seemingly small town called Mystic Falls gets a new yet familiar visitor. The show follows the story of Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) as she falls in love with a vampire and becomes embroiled in the town’s supernatural history — not to mention a steamy love triangle.

15 iZombie (2015-2019)

The CW show iZombie puts a new twist on the undead and a crime procedural. A medical resident attends a boat party and wakes up with much more than a hangover. She wakes up among the undead after a zombie frenzy. Now she must navigate a new life while keeping her secret hidden.

She now works as the medical examiner for the Seattle Police, helping to solve crimes her unique abilities. She manages to satiate her hunger by consuming the victim’s brains and relive their past memories — quite handy, given her vocation.

14 Moonlight (2007-2008)

Moonlight was an early 2000s show, but fans today can’t understand why it was canceled. Sadly, the show only got one season which is a bit of a bummer. Despite this, it’s still worth a watch seeing as it mixes vampires with a crime drama to great effect.

The paranormal romance show revolves around a private investigator who harbors a dark secret. He was turned into a vampire fifty-five years ago. He now works with local authorities to solve crime and deals with other bloodsuckers in L.A. Don’t worry, the show also has some vampire and mortal romance.

13 Fringe (2008-2013)

The J.J. Abrams show, Fringe, was a popular series in the mid-2000s and is a perfect show for Lucifer fans who want a crime procedural mixed with the supernatural. A special team called the Fringe Division works under the supervision of Homeland Security.

The team uses a unique investigative technique called fringe science. They stray from normal branches of police procedure as they investigate odd crimes. These cases are based on the mysteries of a parallel universe.

12 American Gods (2017)

The fantasy drama American Gods isn’t about the type of celestial beings seen Lucifer. Instead, it focuses on the concept of Gods. A man named Shadow Moon (Ricky Whittle) is released from prison after learning he lost his wife.

He soon meets a man named Mr. Wednesday (Ian McShane) who offers him a job as his bodyguard and driver. Moon is pulled into a world where magic and Gods exist. A growing conflict ensues where the New Gods threaten the power of the Old Gods.

11 Evil (2019)

Evil may be a show that not many people have heard of despite having been released in 2019. The show only aired on television for one season before it was picked up by Netflix to continue on the streaming platform.

The drama has the supernatural and crime element that fans crave from Lucifer. It also has the religious element as it features a forensic scientist who teams up with a Catholic seminarian. Together, with a technology contractor, they investigate supernatural occurrences.

10 Sleepy Hollow (2013-2017)

A soldier working as a double agent for George Washington is sent to a long sleep after a confrontation with a Horseman. Waking up more than two centuries later, he teams up with an FBI agent to solve the mystery of the Headless Horseman and various other crimes.

One of the many shows based on literary material, Sleepy Hollow is a mix of the procedural, drama, and fantasy genres. Ichabod Crane, the lead character, is easily the most engaging due to his attitude and his fish-out-of-water demeanor. Not to mention the pairing between him and his FBI agent partner.

9 Good Omens (2019)

An angel and a demon, both lifelong friends despite their obviously different personalities, seek to prevent the Antichrist’s arrival. With the Armageddon on the horizon, the two have to bring their strengths together to ensure the world’s survival.

Among the superb performances David Tennant has provided over the years, Good Omens is something special. It’s the striking contrasts between Tennant’s demonic Crowley and Michael Sheen’s angelic Aziraphale that bring in both laughs and wicked entertainment.

8 Constantine (2014-2015)

A supernatural hunter, who’s mastered the occult, goes across the country looking for various threats to fight. With his anti-hero mentality and sketchy past, John Constantine faces numerous challenges in combating these other-worldly beings.

The similarities between Constantine and Lucifer are such that the two characters ended up meeting in Crisis on Infinite Earths, where it was revealed they’re acquaintances. Constantine might showcase creatures of the occult, but its protagonist’s snarky quality simultaneously makes it a light-hearted feature.

7 Preacher (2016-2019)

A preacher with a taste for vices discovers that he has a superpower where he can control the actions of others. Now armed with this ability, and with the crisis of faith bearing down on him, he sets across to find and confront God himself.

Lucifer fans are no doubt fully aware of the main character’s issue with his father, and these viewers will feel right at home with Preacher. The protagonist’s unorthodox methods, combined with his equally crazy supporting characters, make this journey of enlightenment absolutely thrilling.

6 Forever (2014-2015)

Dr. Henry Morgan seems like an average medical examiner, yet his secret of being an immortal man is anything but ordinary. Having been alive for over two centuries, he solves crimes to find a way to end his continuous existence.

It’s easily unlike any other crime drama on television, and Forever is bolstered by the mystery behind the main character’s immortality. While there’s just the one season to watch, the show’s thematic elements mean it leaves a lasting impression. Henry’s out of touch personality with modern practices also provide great light moments.

5 Pushing Daisies (2007-2009)

Ned, a pie-maker, has the power to bring people back from the dead with his touch. He uses this ability to assist a private investigator to solve the deaths of people who died mysteriously. When Ned revives his childhood sweetheart as well, things start to get out of hand.

The fantasy theme aside, the detective aspect of the show are worth a watch. More than anything else, it’s the breathtaking visuals and cinematography that Pushing Daisies provides that will dazzle viewers. Lucifer similarly makes use of its devilish theme to great effect, and this is oddly similar, yet a stark contrast as well with its eye-popping colors.

4 Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina (2018)

In the town of Greendale, teenage witch Sabrina begins her dark education while also trying to keep a normal life. However, evil forces regularly step out to challenge Sabrina, with horrific consequences should she fail.

Although it’s not a procedural like Lucifer, fans will enjoy the dark fantasy theme found here. Unlike the original sitcom, this version of Sabrina has a more gritty feel, and a whole lot of horror that dives into the lore of witchcraft and demons.

3 Castle (2009-2016)

Rick Castle, a crime novelist, pulls some strings to become the partner of a homicide detective. Despite their regular banter, the two become an effective team who take down big-time criminals. Over time, a romance between the pair blossoms.

It definitely doesn’t carry a fantasy theme like Lucifer, although the dynamic of the leads is very much like Chloe and Lucifer. With Castle and Beckett constantly at each other’s throats, and their many interesting cases falling in place, this series is the best to follow a battle couple.

2 Grimm (2011-2017)

Nick Burkhardt might be a homicide detective, but he’s also an equally adept supernatural hunter. Coming from a legacy of hunters known as “Grimms,” he goes up against many forces of evil with the help of his allies.

It’s known just as much for its mystery elements as it is for the stylish presentation of the characters. There’s not much to be found in terms of comedy like Lucifer here, yet the beings of occult and horror themes are hard to pass up. The supernatural cases to be found in Grimm are also well written and relevant to the overall arc.

1 Supernatural (2005-2020)

Sam and Dean Winchester are brothers who have been brought up in the hunter lifestyle. As they journey across the country fighting the supernatural and helping people, the brothers learn they are fated to avert the apocalypse. Their journey eventually sees them fight both the devil and God himself.

There’s a pretty big debate going on whether this show’s Lucifer is better than Lucifer Morningstar. Overall, Supernatural provides everything one wants from lore and a dark fantasy. With fifteen seasons worth of storylines, the brothers are fully developed characters who team up and fight against angels, demons, and monsters.
