Amazing SpiderMans Lizard Is Hidden In The No Way Home Trailer

The first trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home showed the return of some fan-favorite villains and teased the presence of others, but is The Amazing Spider-Man’s Lizard hidden in the trailer? The Marvel Cinematic Universe continues its expansion now that the Infinity Saga is over, and Phase 4 is taking it even further by adding TV shows to the mix. This new wave is also introducing new, big concepts to the MCU, as is that of the multiverse and the dangers it can bring, and these will be further explored in Spider-Man: No Way Home, which will also bring a variety of villains from previous Spider-Man movies.

At the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home, Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) made Peter Parker’s identity public, so Spider-Man: No Way Home will see the young hero trying to cope with that, but it won’t be easy at all. Peter will ask Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) for help so he can regain some anonymity and protect the ones he loves, but this will trigger a major multiversal conflict, making way for the arrival of various villains, all from previous Spider-Man movies (Sam Raimi’s trilogy and The Amazing Spider-Man movies). The trailer confirmed the return of Doctor Octopus (Alfred Molina), Electro (Jamie Foxx), and the Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe), but it also teased the presence of Sandman (played in Spider-Man 3 by Thomas Haden Church) and Lizard, who might have been hiding in the shadows.

In The Amazing Spider-Man, Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man came face to face with Lizard (Rhys Ifans), the form that Dr. Curt Connors took after trying a regeneration formula on himself. Something went wrong with it and Connors’ skin became green and scaly, transforming him into a lizard/human hybrid. His plan was to make all humans lizard-like by releasing a chemical cloud from Oscorp’s tower, as his purpose was to eliminate the weaknesses he thought plagued humanity. Lizard was eventually defeated by Peter and was restored through an antidote, and by the end of the movie, he was in jail. Connors, then, can return whenever he can, and a very quick and dark shot in the Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer has fans wondering if Lizard is joining the MCU.

Fans have pointed out on social media that around the 2:26 mark in the Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer, a strange figure is haunting Peter from behind, but the scene is very obscure and happens too fast, but it’s accompanied by a roar that has many wondering if it’s Lizard.

Given that the trailer confirmed the presence of the Green Goblin and might hint at the return of Sandman too, it wouldn’t be surprising if Lizard is back as well, though whether it’s the same version from The Amazing Spider-Man or the MCU decided to go with one of its own is unknown. Of course, while some fans are sure it’s Lizard hiding in the shadows, others believe it’s actually one of Doctor Octopus’ arms or even Scorpion, who was introduced in Spider-Man: Homecoming. The last time viewers saw Mac Gargan (Michael Mando) he was in prison along with Adrian Toomes/Vulture (Michael Keaton), so it would make sense to have him back in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

The MCU is betting big on Spider-Man: No Way Home by adding a multiverse conflict and lots of villains, which is a very risky move especially after what happened in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3. Still, fans are excited to see what Peter’s third solo movie will bring and which villains will join the fun, how they will arrive, what their roles will be, and the impact they will have in upcoming MCU movies and TV shows.
