31 New Xbox Games Are Coming To Game Pass Day One

Xbox’s E3 showcase has expanded the list of upcoming day one Game Pass titles to a solid 31, with a good chunk of them coming later this year. Out of all the games shown during Microsoft’s press conference, only three were not bound for Game Pass, the subscription service that has become more and more vital to the Xbox experience. Outside of Far Cry 4, Battlefield 2042, and Diablo 2: Resurrected, each new title in the presentation will be available to subscribers as soon as they release onto the console, with some even available for preload in the days and weeks before launch.

Going into the showcase, Xbox players already knew of several games headed to Xbox and PC Game Pass soon. Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance is a big action RPG set to release onto the service on June 22, continuing a tradition of third-party standouts that also includes Outriders, Carrion, and PlayStation Studios release MLB The Show 21. Upcoming Microsoft releases like Halo Infinite and Psychonauts 2 were also destined for the service day one, with the latter even leaking out a preload ahead of the E3 festivities.

Xbox fans were expecting the list of day one Game Pass releases to grow during E3, but the sheer number of games announced for the service is quite impressive. On the first-party front, Xbox revealed that this year alone would feature Forza Motorsport 5, Age of Empires IV, and the console debut of Microsoft Flight Simulator alongside the already known Halo and Psychonauts. In the next several years, the investment in Xbox Game Studios begins to truly pay off with titles like the newly announced open-world vampire shooter Redfall from Arkane Studios, Starfield from Bethesda, and The Outer Worlds 2 from Obsidian. Xbox has also signed a publishing deal with Avalanche Studios to put out Contraband, a co-op heist game set in a fictional 70s world.

Going over to third parties, games big and small will come to Game Pass on release, bringing the list to that impressive 31 games in total. The Xbox premieres of the acclaimed Hades and Among Us will be available in 2021 alongside new indies like The Gunk, Hello Neighbor 2, and The Ascent. Back 4 Blood, the spiritual successor to Left 4 Dead from Turtle Rock Studios, will also be free for subscribers, guaranteeing a critical mass of multiplayer opponents on launch day. Then, heading into 2022 and beyond, games like the stylish cyberpunk platformer Replaced, off the wall Russian FPS Atomic Heart, and much less off-the-wall Russian FPS S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 will join the service when they’re ready.

It’s clear that Xbox sees Xbox Game Pass as the way forward for its gaming efforts, and it’s hard to argue with the results so far. Players are getting a great mixture of games from Microsoft and other publishers for one single monthly fee, new games are getting boosts in sales despite premiering on Game Pass, and tiny indie projects get to share the spotlight with Master Chief and Marcus Fenix. E3 2021 has been a smaller event in terms of game announcements for obvious reasons, and that makes Microsoft’s strong Game Pass lineup for this year and beyond all the more impressive.
