Both actors have an extensive portfolio filled with epic internationally popular movies, such as The Matrix, starring Reeves, and Taken, starring Neeson.

A number of their sinister or more grim movies have become some of their most popular releases. That comes as no surprise, considering they both have an attraction to the dark side as seen in their movie role choices. 10 Liam Neeson: After.Life (2009)

Starring Christina Ricci and Justin Long, this is a dark movie that involves perception and deception in the cruelest scenario. Neeson plays Eliot Deacon, a funeral parlor owner and director. He claims he has the gift of speaking to the dead and is helping souls to transition from life to death.

After constantly injecting a schoolteacher with a mysterious substance and keeping her locked up, his attempts to convince her that she is dead ultimately fail when she sees her breath condensate on a mirror. Nesson’s role leaves audiences creeped out and wondering how any person could do such a thing.

9 Keanu Reeves: The Watcher (2000)

A twisted tale of murder is the premise of the movie The Watcher. A detective quits his job and moves to a different state after failing to save a woman from a serial killer in one of his cases. To his despair, the killer (played by Reeves) follows him and kills again, taunting the detective to find him and save the victims.

Reeve’s gives an amazing performance depicting a charming but wicked serial killer who evades the law and taunts the unfortunate detective.

8 Liam Neeson: Darkman (1990)

In the movie Darkman, a scientist is working hard to create synthetic skin for burn victims. Things turn ugly when a bunch of gangsters attack his lab, kill his assistant, and beat him up very badly, even putting his face in acid. After they blow up his facility, he is found and taken to a hospital where he is saved but unidentified.

He uses his professional knowledge to create a mask and get revenge on his attackers. His appearance is not only changed but also his personality, as he delves deeper into a vicious and violent cycle. The movie is very dark and eerie, with Neeson giving a convincing depiction of a sad and vengeful man.

7 Keanu Reeves: Knock Knock (2015)

This 2015 movie leaves some viewers a little confused about what the message is. Knock Knock is a successful remake inspired by the 1977 film, Death Game. Two women show up at Evan Webber’s house and claim to be lost and looking for a party. He allows them to enter his house to use his phone and internet. He intends on being a good host, but sadly gets tricked and manipulated after failing to kick them out.

After having an intimate night with the two women, they vandalize his house and attack him. They threaten him and take out all of their “man-hate” fury out on him. The movie turns dark rather quickly in an unexpected twist. Viewers are left wondering who is at fault and who took advantage of whom.

6 Liam Neeson: The Grey (2011)

This movie is a mix of depression and survival as themes. John Ottway is a professional marksman who attempts suicide as he reminisces about his wife. After being interrupted he stops himself and the next day boards a plane that crashes in the Alaskan forest. Ottway and the other survivors must make it through the wild and icy wilderness while fending off a pack of angry wolves.

Neeson’s character takes lead and does his best to save the group, while also struggling with his dark inner demons. The Grey received some negative reactions from environmental and conservation groups, claiming the film depicted wolves in a negative light. Still, the movie was a widespread release that gained a lot of popularity.

5 Keanu Reeves: Constantine (2005)

For fans of the dark and demonic genres, the 2005 movie Constantine offers an intruding story of an occult detective condemned to hell. He spends his time exorcising demons with his ability to perceive half-humans and half-demons and suffers from terminal lung cancer. The tragic life of John Constantine makes this movie a dark and twisted depiction of good and evil.

Keanu Reeves plays the role of Constantine, and although the film is mostly about a man’s tragic fate, his deals with Lucifer, his connection to the archangel, and his attempt at saving others from demonic possession, it ends on a happier note than expected for such a dark movie.

After a lot of chasing and firing, Conlon is able to secure his family and make sure that they are never bothered again. This is all accomplished with the final sacrifice, as Conlon dies from a fatal bullet wound.

The movie John Wick does not need any introduction. It is one of the most popular action movies out there and the fanbase for the franchise has grown tremendously. Its intense action scenes have contributed to its popularity.

A retired assassin’s wife dies and he is left grieving and overwhelmed. After intruders enter his home, kill his dog and steal his car, he becomes determined to seek revenge and re-enters the order of assassins to exact his vengeance. What makes the movie gloomy, violent, and dark is Reeve’s portrayal of this depressed and silent man who uses all his criminal talents to kill repeatedly.

2 Liam Neeson: Schindler’s List (1993)

Neeson does an amazing job at showing the disastrous outcome of working under German Nazi rule in the film Schindler’s List. Schindler is tasked with selecting workers to join his factory. He hires Jewish people because they are cheaper, but because their work is contributing to the Nazi war effort, they are deemed essential workers and their lives are inadvertently saved.

When Schindler (played by Neeson) discovers that his list is saving lives, he starts to carefully select those he feels obligated to save. The tale is gripping and very suspenseful with a dark premise taking place during a horrifying time in world history.

1 Keanu Reeves: Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992)

In Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Reeves plays Jonathan Harker, a solicitor who becomes charmed, manipulated, and imprisoned by Count Dracula. Dracula then travels to Jonathan’s home to court his bride. Harker eventually escapes, recovers, and returns home to save his fiancée from Dracula’s trancing schemes.

Reeves gives an excellent performance, along with costars Gary Oldman, Anthony Hopkins, and Wynona Ryder, in this eerie vampire movie that became a huge success and is considered a cult classic today. It is one of Reeve’s darkest movies that has stood the test of time.
