5 Things Full House Did Better Than Fuller House (& Vice Versa)

Full House and Fuller House each had their advantages, and there were a lot of things one did better than the other.

Full House, a classic sitcom that ran from 1987 to 1995, was and is loved for so many reasons, and fans rejoiced when a sequel series dropped on Netflix; Fuller House started in 2016, and its final episodes were released on June 2, 2020. Both focused on sweet and silly moments shared between the Tanner family and their friends.

Everyone has their own opinion, interests and preferences, meaning some people prefer the original show over the new one and vice versa. That being said, this is a breakdown of five things Full House did better and five things Fuller House did better.

10 Full House Featured An Iconic Theme Song

Right off the bat, Full House drew fans in with that iconic theme song, “Everywhere You Look”. It was sung by Jesse Frederick, who co-wrote it with Bennett Salvay and Jeff Franklin, and it played over the faces and names of the stars. They were all seen having fun around San Francisco, and the fun was echoed through the sweet words of this tune.

9 While Fuller House Gave It An Updated Twist

Thankfully, Fuller House used the same theme song, though it was given an update. First of all, it sounded a little more upbeat and pop-like, as Carly Rae Jepsen recreated “Everywhere You Look” with Butch Walker.

Then, of course, the opening credits showed the new main characters, some of which were the old main characters! And for these people, such as D.J., Stephanie and Kimmy, old clips of them from Full House were featured.

8 Full House Featured Family Vacations In Exciting Locations

The Tanner family lived in San Francisco, but both of these television series were filmed in studios elsewhere. In a couple of instances, out-of-the-ordinary, well-known and exciting locales were used, such as in the vacation episodes. Back in the day, there were episodes that took place in Hawaii (the Season 3 premiere, titled “Tanner’s Island”) and at Walt Disney World (the two-part finale of Season 6, titled “The House Meets the Mouse”). This was thrilling for the cast and the viewers, allowing everyone to enjoy the story and a whole new spot.

7 Fuller House Revisited Familiar Spots

While the characters of Fuller House did not get to return to Disney World, they did get to move into their childhood home. All the memories that were made there became amplified, as Tommy learned to walk where Michelle did, as Jackson and Ramona left for prom out the same door their parents did and as some heart-to-heart talks happened on that same blue plaid couch!

6 Full House Starred The Olsen Twins

Of course, something major was missing in the sequel series: Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. The twins shared the role of Michelle Tanner, and from there, they went on to star in their own videos, television shows and films.

Each family member brought something to the table, but watching this character/these girls grow up on TV was so special.

5 And Fuller House Poked Fun At Their Absence

The Olsen twins were invited back for Fuller House yet declined, and their sister, Elizabeth Olsen, was even offered the role of Michelle, but she turned it down, too. Therefore, throughout the series, jokes were made about them not being there, as the cast would even stare down the camera, making their absence even more obvious.

This was the definition of making the most of the situation; it would have been amazing to see these extra famous siblings return, but it was hilarious to see/hear how Michelle not being around was handled.

4 Full House Focused More On Heartfelt Moments

Both of these stories were family friendly, yet it seemed that Full House, overall, focused on more heartfelt moments. Sure, Fuller House had plenty of them, which featured growth and tears and support. However, Danny, Jesse and Joey were the masters of this, and without them, D.J., Stephanie and Kimmy would not have been equipped to lead their own heartfelt talks as adults!

3 Fuller House Focused More On Silly Moments

Similarly, Fuller House seemed to focus more on silly moments. As mentioned, it could be very serious and heartwarming, and Full House had lots of laugh-inducing and hilarious scenes.

Overall, though, this newer series brought the comedy in a big way. Part of that could have been the time it was released or the fact that it was on Netflix and not ABC.

2 Full House Made These Actors Legends

When the Tanner family was first introduced in the ‘80s, the world was not super familiar with these stars and had not even heard of some of them. Now, they are all household names, and it is common to see these actors on a variety of other television shows and flicks.

1 Fuller House Had More Diversity

Fuller House brought them all back and introduced new characters, and through this, it had more diversity than its predecessor. Race, sexual preferences, ages, religions and socioeconomic statuses were just a few things that were touched upon and celebrated in this sequel story.
