Netflix took on reality TV with Too Hot to Handle and Love is Blind. What did each do better than the other in the realms of love and entertainment?

Too Hot to Handle and Love is Blind are reality television shows from Netflix that have been very well received by audiences, with both shows placing in the top ten of the most viewed shows on the streaming service the week they premiered. These shows take traditional dating series and add a little twist.
In Love is Blind, contestants meet, fall in love, and get engaged before ever seeing each other in person. In Too Hot to Handle, contestants with a history of superficial dating are placed on an island and told they can’t engage in any sexual activity while there. Both shows set themselves up to be very interesting and binge-worthy social experiments.
10 Too Hot To Handle: Contestants’ Transformations
Both of these shows set out to better the contestants on the show and hopefully the viewers as well, but in terms of true and drastic transformations, Too Hot to Handle definitely wins. The contestants on this show were cast based on the fact that they were all self-described players and enjoyed casual, uncommitted relationships.
Through workshops and meaningful conversations, all of these contestants left with a better understanding of who they are and a desire to form deeper connections with future partners.
9 Love Is Blind: Lasting Love
The couples who met, fell in love, and got married on the show are all still together. Cameras stopped rolling on Barnett and Amber, and Cameron and Lauren two years ago, and both couples are still very happily married.
The success rate of this show and Too Hot to Handle in terms of couples who left the show together is the same. Two couples on each show ended up taking their relationships off-camera, but as of right now, Love is Blind boasts the longest relationships.
8 Too Hot To Handle: Contestants Took Their Relationships Slow
The biggest difference between these two shows is that Too Hot to Handle encourages the contestants to take their new relationships really, really slow, while Love is Blind had their contestants married within a month of meeting each other.
Too Hot to Handle encourages the contestants to build strong and meaningful foundations so that when they are ready to take their connection to the next level, they already know and love the person they’re with on a much deeper level.
7 Love Is Blind: Gave Viewers A Happy Ending
Love Is Blind did a great job of including their viewers on every step of each couple’s journey so that by the last episode, there were no questions left to answer and fans weren’t left wondering what happened to any of their favorites.
Netflix even did a reunion special with all of the contestants which aired shortly after the finale episode of the season, so viewers got to check in with everyone from the show, two years after the cameras stopped rolling.
6 Too Hot To Handle: Get To Know The Contestants
Too Hot to Handle spends a lot of time getting to know each of the contestants and the producers do a great job of making each contestant feel comfortable enough to be really vulnerable and honest on camera. We learn a lot about who the contestants were before coming to the island, which makes watching their transformations so much more powerful and inspiring.
It’s also really rewarding to see their interviews toward the end of the season because viewers can come to their own conclusions about how each cast member has changed during their time on the show.
5 Love Is Blind: Released Episodes Weekly
Love is Blind strayed from Netflix’s usual binge formula and released episodes on a weekly basis, instead of all at once. The first five episodes were released on February 13th, just in time for Valentine’s Day. The following week, four more episodes were released, and then Netflix made viewers wait another week for the finale episode to see who ended up getting married, and another week after that for the reunion special to see who was still together.
The series was drawn out over a month, making it the hot topic and most viewed series on the streaming service for much longer than any of its other original shows.
4 Too Hot To Handle: Gave Contestants The Boot
Lana, the virtual assistant in charge of keeping the constants honest and on the right path, is ruthless. The chime Lana makes right before she speaks, sent most of the contestants into panic mode the second they heard it because most of the time, Lana’s main purpose was to call out the contestants when they slipped up.
Lana also wasn’t afraid to kick people out if they weren’t playing by her rules and becoming better people. Before the finale, Lana asked Haley, Madion, and Kori to leave because they weren’t showing any improvement and they all had pretty negative attitudes about the whole experiment that could’ve brought the entire group down if they had stayed.
3 Love Is Blind: No Money Involved
The only prize for the contestants on Love is Blind was true love and a happily ever after. Couples who made it to the end of the show married didn’t receive any prize money or any kind of bonus. Their prize was each other, which kept this experiment honest.
On Too Hot to Handle there is a cash prize at the end if the contestants can keep their hands off one another, which leaves viewers wondering if contestants truly transformed or were just in it for the money.
2 Too Hot To Handle: Casting
Viewers got to meet a lot of different people from a lot of different backgrounds on Too Hot to Handle. Contestants flew in from Australia, England, Ireland, Canada, and the United States to be on this show, making the cast diverse and really interesting.
It also created a lot of funny moments between the cast with all of them trying to communicate and understand one another through different accents. The contestants on Love is Blind definitely came from different and diverse backgrounds, but it seems as though the entire show was cast out of Atlanta, Georgia, where the majority of the contestants are from.
1 Love Is Blind: A Bigger Cast
To ensure this experiment would have some kind of success, Love is Blind cast a wide net. Originally, the show cast thirty contestants and all of them began the experiment of dating in pods. As the show went on, it started to focus on six of the couples formed, giving viewers the twelve main contestants they’ve come to know and love.
Die-hard fans have started sleuthing on social media and the internet to find out more about the other contestants and if anyone else ended up getting together during or after filming, making Love is Blind a show that keeps on giving.
