Trainers can fight Jessie and James in Pokémon GO for a chance to catch a shiny Celebi. Here are some tips to counter their February 2021 team.

Pokémon GO continues to offer players boss fights so that they may test out the strength of the Pokémon they’ve caught. Alongside the members and Admins of Team Rocket GO, players are able to pick a fight with Jessie and James, two characters that originated from the show. As of December of 2020, players can fight them for a chance to recruit a shiny Celebi. However, they won’t be able to after they leave at the end of February.

As with the other bosses in GO, this Team Rocket duo change their party members every so often to keep trainers on their toes. The same Pokémon that worked against them one month might not be as optimal as the next. This guide will examine each Pokémon they bring with them during February 2021 to help players pick out the best team to fight them with.

Tips to Beat Jessie in February 2021

Scyther

• Jessie will lead with her Scyther, a swift Bug, and Flying-type. Though the scythes it has for arms may look intimidating, its double typing makes it four times weak to Rock moves. Use Pokémon like Larvitar and Aron, or their evolutions, to quickly take it down.

Ekans

• This snake is a pure Poison-type, making it vulnerable to Psychic and Ground-type attacks. Any Pokémon with attacks of these types will perform well, provided they aren’t a Fairy-type weak to Ekan’s poison. Claydol is a solid pick, having both Ground and Psychic-type moves at its disposal. For a more defensive approach, choose Steelix or Metagross. Both have typing, Ground, and Psychic respectively, which makes them strong against Ekans, while also resisting Poison thanks to their Steel type.

Stantler

• A Normal-type, Stantler’s only weakness is Fighting moves. While any Pokémon with access to one of those attacks can take it down quickly, Ghost types will resist Stantler’s Normal attacks. This makes Alolan Marowak, a Ghost that can learn Rock Smash, and Gengar, which can use Focus Blast, solid choices to use if players have them in their party.

Tips to Beat James in February 2021

Pinsir

• Much like his partner, James will begin with a Bug-type. Unlike Scyther, however, Pinsir is a pure Bug-type. This doesn’t change much in the long run, because Bug types already have a lot of weaknesses. Fire, Flying, and Rock-type attacks will all defeat it quickly. Because Flying types also resist Bug, they’re the best choice for taking down Pinsir. Staraptor and Braviary have high damage output, but Skarmory will take even less damage from Pinsir because of its Steel typing.

Koffing and Grimer

• James’s second and third Pokémon are both Poison-types with little variance, so the same tricks that worked against Ekans will apply here. For those that have not caught a Steelix or Metagross, Excadrill and Bronzong have the same typing and can function as alternatives if need be.
