Next week’s patch for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Title Update 1.4.1 will require players to redownload the entire game, an effort that should prepare the open-world adventure for its second year of post-release support. This is uncharted territory for an Assassin’s Creed title, as is Ubisoft’s plans for Year 2 content. Thus far, AC Valhalla’s post-launch support has included seasonal events, new game modes, and two paid story expansions.

The first expansion, Wrath of the Druids, hit digital stores earlier this year in May. It allows players to explore the vast landscapes of Ireland as Eivor works to gain favor with Gaelic Kings and combats a druidic cult referred to as the Children of Danu. In August, Ubisoft deployed The Siege of Paris as the second paid DLC expansion for AC Valhalla, wherein Eivor takes part in an ambitious attack on war-torn Frankia. And the second year of DLC offerings should prove just as robust, though Ubisoft itself has yet to offer specifics on its content release plans. Asssassin’s Creed Valhalla’s already large file size will need some work if things are to continue at this pace.

In posts across its forums and social media pages, Ubisoft has confirmed that Title Update 1.4.1 for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will go live next week, ushering in a “data restructuring” that requires players to re-download the base game. The patch should consolidate game files, culminating in smaller file sizes across all platforms. Better still, the forthcoming update should improve data streaming, loading times, and “overall runtime performance.” A message via the Ubisoft Discussion Forums additionally noted the restructuring will help developers “continue supporting Assassin’s Creed Valhalla with future content and game updates.”

Since the file sizes will decrease, the process of reinstalling the full game shouldn’t prove too troublesome. And fortunately, the data restructuring won’t impact Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s expansions in the slightest. One detail Ubisoft has yet to share, however, is a specific release date for the patch. This detail and others should surface soon, though.

The latest Assassin’s Creed installment hit store shelves in November 2020, just in time for the new console launches from Microsoft and Sony. Though the first few months of post-launch support were rocky at best, AC Valhalla has since adopted a rhythm that keeps many a player engaged – even if the content itself is considered hit or miss more often than not.
