AirPlay Is Coming To Amazons Newest TVs Very Soon

Amazon’s new Fire TV Omni and 4-Series televisions will feature Apple’s AirPlay 2 technology. AirPlay 2 has been available for a few years now and is built-in to a decent number of TVs. Of course, AirPlay 2 is built-in to Apple TV. Even if a TV doesn’t have AirPlay 2 built-in, Apple TV users have access to it.

Of course, AirPlay 2 only really matters if users are within the Apple ecosystem. Only iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices are capable of beaming content to TVs or other devices that are AirPlay 2 compatible. AirPlay 2 allows users to mirror an iPhone, iPad, or Mac’s screen in addition to beam video or audio content to AirPlay 2-compatible devices.

According to CNET, Amazon’s new Fire TV Omni and 4-Series televisions will be gaining support for AirPlay 2. An Amazon representative told the publication that the feature will be “coming soon” sometime later “this year.” With no definitive date and given Amazon’s track record for implementing AirPlay 2, it’s possible it could be delayed. Hopefully, that’s not the case, and Amazon implements AirPlay 2 sooner rather than later. Of course, there are other options to play content on the TV. Just like other smart TVs, the new TVs from Amazon will have built-in streaming applications. Amazon will also have built-in support for the company’s own Alexa for hand-free communication and control.

Options Are Always A Good Thing

Unfortunately, Amazon’s plans for AirPlay 2 on existing devices are iffy at best. The company hasn’t announced plans on bringing the beaming technology to its Fire TV Stick, Fire TV Stick 4K Max, or Fire TV Cube. That’s in stark comparison to Roku, which supports AirPlay 2 for all televisions running the company’s software. At this point, Amazon has no excuse not to implement AirPlay 2 on both newer and existing hardware. Most, if not all, modern TVs have AirPlay 2 built-in from the get-go.

And having options such as AirPlay 2 or Chromecast is great for customers as well. Some third-party applications that are built into TVs can be slow, buggy, or flat out randomly not work. Having options just in case something fails is never a bad thing and always a good thing. Of course, another (pricey) option, if AirPlay 2 is the end goal, is to buy an Apple TV. It’s redundant as the Apple TV also has its own App Store with video streaming apps. But that guarantees a great AirPlay 2 experience regardless of which TV the Apple TV is plugged into.
