Alexa Voice Profiles How To Set Up & How They Improve The Experience

Amazon Alexa devices offer the opportunity to create Voice Profiles, which can greatly improve how an Alexa smart speaker or device is used. After setting up a Voice Profile, the Alexa device will be able to recognize the user’s individual voice and refer to them by name. What’s more, it’s easy to add a Voice Profile to an Alexa-enabled device, with the whole process only requiring a few steps.

Users have a wide range of Alexa-enabled smart displays and devices to choose from, including the Echo Show 10 which received Zoom support earlier this year. Alexa is also available on Echo Dot smart speakers and Fire TV Stick streaming devices, among others. Users can also take advantage of the Amazon Alexa app, available from the App Store and Google Play. Earlier this summer, iPhone users gained a new widget to add to the Home screen, making it even easier to access Alexa, and without using a wake word.

To set up an Alexa Voice Profile, open the Alexa app and tap on the More button in the bottom right corner of the screen. Then tap Settings followed by Your Profile and then select Add Your Voice. From there, tap Continue and the Alexa app will offer a series of prompts for the user to say aloud — for example, “Alexa, add milk to my shopping list.” If the user wants the Alexa device to recognize additional voices, open up the Alexa app on another person’s phone and log in with an account that is connected to the same Alexa-enabled device. After adding the new user to the device, head to Add Your Voice section once again and follow the same steps to set up the additional voice profiles.

Why It’s Worth Adding An Alexa Voice Profile

Adding a Voice Profile is a great way for the user to personalize their Amazon Alexa device and the experience. Users can make sure only trusted people with a registered Voice Profile can use Alexa to place an order from Amazon or elsewhere. In addition, if a user has an Unlimited Family Plan with Amazon Music, Alexa can utilize the user’s Voice Profile to customize the music they hear. Furthermore, a Voice Profile can also be used to create personalized reminders that can be sent directly to the individual’s phone. To add a Reminder, just say, “Alexa, remind me to…” or “Alexa, add a reminder” and follow the prompts.

As seen earlier this year when Amazon improved hunches, Alexa devices are becoming more tuned to the user. For example, Alexa can now even automatically act on hunches without having to be prompted by the user, this includes turning off smart devices that have been accidentally left on. With features like Voice Profile and improved hunches, Alexa-enabled devices can help to make many everyday tasks that little bit easier.
