All Shiny Pokémon Added In Sword & Shields DLC

The Galar region in Pokémon Sword and Shield is visually stunning, and its DLC expansion pack, which introduced players to two completely new areas and shiny Pokémon in the region, is no different. These new areas, the Isle of Armor and the Crown Tundra, contain diverse biomes for players to explore from deserts with raging sandstorms to sprawling forests, vast oceans, haunted graveyards, and icy peaks. The Isle of Armor and the Crown Tundra expanded on Galar’s lore with new characters who provided new historical insights, Galar’s Pokémon variety following the lack of options in Sword and Shield’s base game, and features by way of Dynamax Adventures and more.

Sword and Shield’s reintroduction of many Pokémon into the current generation of games was paramount as the decision not to include every species like past generations led to one of the franchise’s worst controversies in its decades-long history. Dubbed “Dexit” by the Pokémon fandom as a play on Pokédex and Brexit, the base Galar games saw only 400 Pokémon species present in the game’s data, with a handful more such as the Squirtle and Bulbasaur evolution lines being added via a patch a few months post-release. Then, Sword and Shield’s two waves of DLC were announced, which brought back many more Pokémon. While every species still isn’t able to be caught in or transferred to the Galar region, Sword and Shield remain great games in which to shiny hunt, and the DLC expansion areas added even more fun Pokémon for shiny collectors to find.

Pokémon’s Isle of Armor and Crown Tundra DLCs introduced new Pokémon for players to hunt by reintroducing older species to the current generation, adding completely new species and Regional Variants, and adding a new shiny hunting method in Dynamax Adventures. The Isle of Armor was released in summer 2020, with the Crown Tundra following in fall 2020, and each half of the DLC reintroduced new species. Native to the Isle of Armor are evolution lines such as Buneary, Lickitung, Carvanha, Shinx, and Magnemite, while the Crown Tundra hosts evolution lines such as Elekid, Magby, Beldum, Gible, and fossil Pokémon like Amaura, Archen, and Lileep. Suddenly, many Pokémon that players would have had to hunt in generation 7 games like Moon or Ultra Sun and then transfer to Pokémon Home can now be hunted in the wild or through breeding in Galar.

Shiny Hunting On Sword & Shield’s Isle of Armor

All Shiny Pokémon Added In Sword & Shields DLC

Likewise, both DLC expansion areas introduced new Pokémon species and new Regional Variants for players to potentially hunt. New Pokémon in the Isle of Armor DLC include Galarian Slowpoke, which can be evolved into Galarian Slowbro. (Galarian Slowking wouldn’t show up until the Crown Tundra.) Unfortunately, some of the new legendary Pokémon in the two areas cannot be shiny hunted by players. Barred from being shiny are Kubfu and its evolution Urshifu on the Isle of Armor, as well as Calyrex and its two steeds (Spectrier and Glastrier), Keldeo, the Galarian forms of Kanto’s legendary birds (Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres), and the Cosmog and Poipole players receive as gifts during the Crown Tundra’s story.

While some legendaries are shiny locked, many other legendary species aren’t, and Sword and Shield’s Galarian Slowpoke is fun and easy to shiny hunt. On the Isle of Armor, Slowpoke spawns frequently on the beach immediately outside the Corviknight station where players first arrive. It becomes quick to hunt if players ride on their bikes and use the “run method,” simply meaning that players can encounter them, run if they’re not shiny, and encounter new spawns repeatedly until a shiny is found. This beach makes this process quick, and this works well on the Isle of Armor for Sandygast, Grapploct, and Starmie, too!

Legendary Pokémon In The Crown Tundra DLC

If players’ eyes are set on shiny legendary Pokémon, the Crown Tundra is where they should head. Sonia enlists players’ help in researching Sword and Shield’s Cobalion, Terrakion, and Virizion. Once all of their footprints are found, they spawn and can be encountered, and they can be shiny! Players can save before encountering them and restart their game each time they’re not shiny until they finally are. It can be a long process but one that’s worth it! Likewise, dedicated shiny hunters should head to the Max Lair. Here, shiny odds are boosted, and they’re boosted further if players have the Shiny Charm from completing Galar’s regional Pokédex.

After winning Dynamax Adventures in Sword and Shield’s Max Lair, players encounter a legendary Pokémon, and they can all be shiny. Here, players can find the Kantonian versions of the legendary birds: such as Mewtwo, Suicune, Raikou, Entei, Ho-oh, Lugia, Groudon, Kyogre, Rayquaza, and more. Moreover, every Ultra Beast bar Poipole is found at the end of Max Lairs, too, meaning players can shiny hunt Nihilego, Buzzwole, Pheremosa, Xurkitree, Celesteela, Kartana, Guzzlord, Blacephalon, and Stakataka here.

Elsewhere in the Crown Tundra, players can shiny hunt the Regi species. Across the tundra exist several chambers, each of which requires the solution of a riddle to enter. Inside, players can find and catch Regirock, Registeel, and Regice from the Hoenn region, as well as the new Regieleki and Regidrago, though players can only choose one of the two new Regis. However, if players have all five, they can encounter Regigigas, and all of these legendary Pokémon, including Regigigas, can be encountered in their shiny forms. They might be long shiny hunts due to having to restart the game for each encounter, but they’re worth it if players really want them. These Crown Tundra hunts are the first time that some legendary Pokémon can be shiny hunted, which is the case for the four Tapu guardians from Alola, for example. The following Pokémon are the perfect shiny hunts in both Pokémon’s Crown Tundra and Isle of Armor DLCs:

Ultimately, the Crown Tundra’s Max Lair is seemingly one of the most effective shiny hunting methods in recent memory (and it’s instrumental in finding Ability Patches in Pokémon’s DLC). Players are guaranteed four captures per Dynamax Adventure because none of the Pokémon, including the legendary at the end, ever break out of their Poké Balls. Because of this, there are four chances for a shiny Pokémon in boosted odds each time players complete an adventure.

With each adventure taking roughly 10 minutes, a little time spent doing Dynamax Adventures each day could yield very fruitful results. At the same time, committing to quick encounters in areas throughout Pokémon Sword and Shield’s Isle of Armor could prove fruitful, too. Pokémon like Sandygast are easier to hunt than ever there, and Galarian Slowpoke’s evolutions are both beautiful and cool in their shiny forms.
