American Pie 5s Best Story Would Be A Reboot With The Original Casts Kids

With Tara Reid’s announcement that American Pie 5 will be made eventually, the best story the sequel could tell would be a reboot starring the original cast’s kids. It’s been nine years since the fourth film in the series, American Reunion, premiered, leading many to wonder if a fifth American Pie movie would ever happen. Because the film will likely take place years after Reunion, it makes the most sense for the series to come full-circle and focus on the original crew’s children.

The original American Pie follows four high school seniors vowing to lose their virginity before graduation. As expected, raunchy hijinks and hilarity ensue as they navigate talking to and attempting to seduce the opposite sex. Most often, Jim (Jason Biggs) is literally caught with his pants down by his well-meaning, if not incredibly awkward, father. Though the films capitalize on filthy humor, at the series’ heart, it speaks more to the endurance of old friendships through college, marriages, and life.

American Pie 5 could be the definitive closing to the original cast’s stories by putting emphasis on their children’s journeys. Jim’s relationship with his father is one of the most honest and heartfelt of the first few movies, though it’s mainly featured in the cringiest scenes. Noah (Eugene Levy) is privy to walking in on all of Jim’s most vulnerable moments and seeks to talk openly about his son’s pubescent impulses. Jim and Michelle have a toddler son in American Reunion, so it would make for a worthwhile sequel if Jim were to take on the mantle of his dad in American Pie 5, accidentally walking in on his teenaged son and giving unsolicited advice at the least appropriate time. The generational gap would also provide for a nice juxtaposition, as Jim and his friends may be operating from a late ’90s / early ’00s perspective, which their children may find too traditional.

Having Jim act like his dad may also develop Noah’s character since he was just trying to do his best in sticky situations. He meant well in his intentions to educate Jim in the birds and bees, but his execution was a little misaligned. In American Reunion, Noah even hints at Jim having the same talk with his son in a couple of years. By having older Jim adopt Noah’s approach, it’ll be a nice comedic callback to the first movie and a way to flesh out Noah’s backstory, as he probably went through the same awkward phase as Jim. Hopefully, Eugene Levy will return to impart some more hilarious parental advice to his son and grandson.

Though the American Pie franchise has had its share of hits and misses, American Pie 5 could revitalize interest in the series again and provide a nice bookend to the original cast’s stories. As Jim and Michelle are the only characters in American Reunion with a child, American Pie 5 has the potential to flesh out other characters’ narratives and introduce children of their own.
