Andrew Garfield Flatly Denies Hes In SpiderMan No Way Home

Andrew Garfield once again flatly denies that he’s in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Playing the web-slinging hero in Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man series, he followed Tobey Maguire’s suit, who starred in Sam Raimi’s trilogy in the 2000s. Now, both are rumored to join Tom Holland in the upcoming Jon Watts-directed threequel, but Garfield says he’s not in the film.

Picking up after the events of Spider-Man: Far From Home, Spider-Man: No Way Home deals with the ramifications of Mysterio’s (Jake Gyllenhaal) malicious dying confession outing Peter Parker’s secret superhero identity. But, its primary narrative actually revolves around the burgeoning MCU multiverse. After Peter Parker reached out to Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) after he’s been framed for the death of Quentin Beck, the sorcerer cast a tampered spell, and it may have opened Earth to multiversal threats. This is why Spider-Man 2’s Doc Ock (Alfred Molina) pops up in the film and could very well be how Garfield and Maguire will presumably be involved in it.

Despite mounting evidence that this is what’s in store for fans in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Garfield has reiterated that he is not in the movie. During a recent guest appearance on The Today Show, he was almost tricked into confirming his cameo in the movie, but he was able to immediately recognize that he was being set up, resulting in his very interesting answer:

“You guys are really good at your jobs, but I’m better at mine! Listen, I’m not in the film. I love Spider-Man, I always have, and I’m so happy to have played the part… I love Tom Holland, I love [director] Jon Watts, I love [producers] Amy Pascal and Kevin Feige, and what they’ve done with those movies and that character … It’s an important character to me. So I’m just really excited to see what happens in the third one, as you guys are.”

Since rumors started that he’s in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Garfield has been asked multiple times if he is in the film, and fans have gotten some varied answers. He previously debunked rumors, then subtly walked back on it, keeping the door open for any possibilities. But while he flatly denied his appearance, his line about being good at his job could be an indication that he’s been well-briefed on what he can and cannot say with regard to this particular speculation. For what it’s worth, his and Maguire’s involvement in the threequel is essentially being treated as all but confirmed. But perhaps, Sony and Marvel Studios don’t want to reveal it early on. In any case, the only reason why Garfield is forced to comment on the matter is because he’s been doing press for his other projects, including his new Netflix film, Tick, Tick… Boom!

With Spider-Man: No Way Home’s second trailer due to roll out tomorrow, November 17, 2021, fans are wondering if Maguire and Garfield’s rumored appearance will finally be confirmed. If not, chances are, that it will be saved for the movie itself with just a month to go before it premieres. But frankly, at this point, they’re better off setting the record straight now since fans are already convinced this is the case anyway.
