Animal Crossing: New Horizons is full of new and interesting features, but it neglected a few classic elements from the original that players loved.

The Animal Crossing franchise has proven to be one of the most popular of all time, and the most recent release, Animal Crossing: New Horizons has really taken things to a whole new level. The Nintendo Switch game has been a mega-hit, with people all around the world enjoying it, connecting together to enjoy the vibrant world that has been created.

However, while Animal Crossing: New Horizons has brought a lot of new features and characters to the world that have really enhanced the game, there are some old-school elements missing. The classic GameCube version of this franchise still remains beloved by a lot of people, and several features from that game have been left out of the new one.

10 Gyroids

One feature that hasn’t been added into Animal Crossing: New Horizons are the Gyroids, which were popular within the franchise heading into the newest game. These were just collectible items that came in tons of different shapes, sizes, colors, and visual styles.

They were fun to collect and trade with friends and neighbors, but, sadly, they’re not part of the current game, apart from Lloid, who pops up whenever a player creates a bridge, which has given gamers hope that this feature could return.

9 Katrina’s Fortunes

Another element that has been around since the beginning of Animal Crossing is Katrina’s Fortune Tent. This has always been a fun part of the game, with Katrina often popping up to provide fortunes to the characters within the village.

However, so far in New Horizons, this character and section of the game have been omitted. While it is something that could easily be added in down the line within an update, for now this has been kept out.

8 The Police Station

Another building that has yet to be added to New Horizons is the Police Station, which is something that was part of the original game, where Booker and Copper could be found. This location ended up being a place where lost and found items would go, which allowed for fun and random items to be located.

While some gamers have gone on to build their very own police station, attempting to recreate this popular element of the game, Nintendo has decided to keep it out of the latest version in an official capacity.

7 Town Dump

That’s right, the original Gamecube version actually featured a Town Dump, which is now no longer part of the video game with the newest version. This area may not have been the most beautiful part of Animal Crossing, but it did actually serve a purpose.

Because characters would throw away different items into this area, making the most of its purpose as a dump, this was a spot where people could pick up new things instantly, whether that be clothes or furniture. It’s something that would work well within the current version of the game, but it has been neglected.

6 Morning Aerobics

The Morning Aerobics was a fun part of the Gamecube version of Animal Crossing and something that has actually returned several times since. However, it is yet to feature in New Horizons, even as a part-time feature, which is a shame.

This feature would take place between July and August as characters would meet up in the morning to do an aerobics class. It was something a little different and fun, which would work well within the current setting.

5 Sports Fair

Keeping in the world of exercise, something else that is no longer part of the game is the Sports Fair, which would take place in the Autumn and Spring. This would bring characters together for an event, which was always fun in terms of interaction.

The characters would take part in different activities such as the tug of war, a foot race, and a ball toss, and would be rewarded with medals depending on how they performed. This added another collectible element to the game as well as creating a fun moment of competition to bring some real excitement.

4 Lighthouse Duty

In the Gamecube version, the Lighthouse played a much bigger role than it does in New Horizons. Right now, the lighthouse doesn’t have much of a role at all, with this just being a decorative item that gamers can purchase in a variety of colors to place around.

However, that wasn’t always the case. The lighthouse has been a staple of the game for a reason, and that’s because, in the Gamecube version, you could actually go inside and even take on lighthouse duty, having to turn it on and off at different points, which would bring rewards.

3 Playable NES

Something that the Gamecube version of Animal Crossing did was bring back the NES console within the game. It was a really cool throwback element, as characters could actually collect the NES to then play within the game itself.

This was a great way of giving a nod to the past, while also keeping things fun and interactive within the game. Nintendo could have even brought this mode back but used a different former console, such as the Gamecube itself!

2 The Post Office

The Post Office has played a big part in the Animal Crossing franchise up until New Horizons, where the building has been left out. This has been a location where people can go to send letters to other players or characters in different villages, which brought a lot of communication and connection to the game.

While letters can still be sent in the newest game, this is done via the airport instead, which has effectively removed the building, making it no longer needed. It’s a shame that it had to go, as this was a fun part of the game, and it felt like it fit in very well.

1 Froggy Chair

Out of everything that was left out of New Horizons, the one element that caused the biggest controversy was the fact that the famous Froggy Chair has not been included. This caused a lot of complaints, with diehard fans not being pleased that the chair had been taken out of the game.

It’s odd that it wasn’t included because the item has always proven to be very popular with gamers, and this does feel like something that could have easily been added in during an update. However, for now, this is a missing item, and people aren’t pleased about it.
