Animal Crossing How To Unlock (& Use) Partition Walls

Animal Crossing: New Horizons has introduced a ton of new content, including building items like partition walls, to the game between its free 2.0 update and the Happy Home Paradise paid DLC, which both released early on November 3. Along with characters like Brewster and Lottie, over 9,000 items were added to the game, giving players more opportunities to get creative than ever before. The game also introduced several new design features as part of its DLC, allowing players to change the lighting, add soundscapes, and build partition walls in and around their homes.

Partition walls were revealed in the October 15 Nintendo Direct along with these other exciting new additions to the game, and players had plenty of content to look forward to with the release of the Happy Home Paradise DLC. Partition walls can completely change the layout of a room and give homes a new layer of depth as players experiment with this new design skill not just in their own house, but in vacation homes and villager residences as well.

Players must have the Happy Home Paradise DLC installed in order to unlock partition walls. After they’ve designed seven vacation homes on the Happy Home Archipelago, Niko will tell the player that he has a surprise for them that he’ll reveal later. Once they enter the vacation home of their eighth client, players will notice the partition wall in the middle of the room. This was Niko’s big surprise, and he will teach players this new skill so they can begin putting up partition walls in their vacation homes.

How To Use Partition Walls In Animal Crossing: New Horizons

As soon as players unlock partition walls in Animal Crossing’s Happy Home Paradise DLC, they can be found under “Other” in the player’s inventory both in and out of decorating mode. When placed in the room, they will have the same wallpaper as the other walls, and players cannot use accent wallpaper on them. Partition walls can be used to divide a room, create a small nook within a room, or combine with other furniture as part of a design. However, wall-hanging items cannot be hung from partition walls since they are technically their own furniture item.

After the player finishes the eighth vacation home and returns to the Paradise Planning office, Niko will meet them there to teach them the DIY recipe for partition walls. With this recipe, players can return to their home islands and make partition walls in their own homes. Partition walls can be made with three wood and three clay and take up a space of 2.0 x .05 in the room, but they cannot be customized.
