One Animal Crossing: New Horizons player decided to show off their affinity for the game’s undersea critters with a new custom phone case. The tropical, underwater scene would make fans think it came from The Little Mermaid, but the art stylings show an aspect of ACNH that most players never get to see: what is under the sea.

Fishing is one of the core aspects of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, as players cast out to fill up their Critterpedia with all the fish, sharks, and other water creatures that occupy Animal Crossing’s waterways. Deep-sea diving allows players to swim out into the ocean surrounding their island and dive for clams, octopus, and other deep-sea creatures. Both of these collecting activities provide a top-down mystery mechanic where players hope they manage to catch a rare critter to add to their collection or sell for a ton of bells. Unfortunately, Animal Crossing players can only imagine what life is like below the surface of their island’s oceans, ponds, and rivers.

Nevertheless, Redditor DaCheezBoss shared their take on the underwater world of Animal Crossing, using the scene to decorate their new phone case. The case is an aqua-blue backdrop populated by the many fish and deep-sea creatures, just as they appear on Animal Crossing islands. DaCheezBoss also included octopus villager Marina in her natural habitat, floating with the other fish. And, a human avatar (presumably DaCheezBoss themself) is also shown, adorned in one of the wetsuits needed to dive into and explore the ocean world. Already, several other Redditors have asked DaCheezBoss how they can get their own cute phone case.

Collaborations with companies to sell Animal Crossing: New Horizons merchandise has been quite strong thanks to the game’s continued popularity. Nintendo has partnered with PUMA to create Animal Crossing sneakers, with Build-a-Bear to create plus versions of characters like Tom Nook, and with make-up and apparel lines. Although it’s unclear whether DaCheezBoss got their case from an approved vendor as part of an official collaboration or just through a custom order, the market for Animal Crossing merch is clearly still strong.

Now that Animal Crossing: New Horizon’s last major DLC has been released, players are anxiously awaiting news on the future of the series. Still, the DLC has given players opportunities to explore brand-new areas of the world and create new items. The enduring creativity afforded Animal Crossing players in-game and the many ways that players can experience the game means that it might just last beyond when Nintendo’s support for the game ends.
