Due to an unexpected glitch in Apex Legends, an unlucky player has lost $2,000 worth of top-tier cosmetic items, which EA apparently refused to refund or return. Unfortunately, an issue like that can remain unaddressed in the game for quite a while, as vividly demonstrated by Respawn’s long-absent efforts to fix another annoying bug.

Recently, Respawn Entertainment has finally acknowledged a long-existing trident glitch, which has been irritating the Apex Legends community for a long time. Basically, the only vehicle available in the game can sometimes be bugged, unexpectedly launching itself up in the air. Trident’s unwanted behavior was likely shared numerous times featured by fans on social media, but after another demonstration on Reddit, the devs have finally paid attention to the issue and promised to investigate it. But as much as the trident glitch is annoying, there might be even more serious trouble on the horizon.

According to a recent report by Vlhv on Reddit, there’s a critical issue in Apex Legends that might result in losing all the in-game cosmetics. This is exactly what happened to the player’s friend on Xbox. Apparently, the victim received an informational in-game prompt suggesting they sign into their EA account for additional security measures. Once the player acted as required, all the in-game cosmetics vanished, while a weird mirror account was created out of nowhere. According to the poor gamer, their belongings were worth over $2,000 including six Heirlooms for some of the characters. Contacting EA support did not help at all as managers suggested that it was the victim’s fault. Judging by players’ comments, there indeed might be trouble linking EA accounts and claiming cosmetic rewards in Apex Legends. If that’s the case, then EA’s and Respawn’s thorough investigation is undoubtedly needed there.

Issues like that can have harsh long-term consequences for Apex Legends, especially on the eve of the approaching Season 9. According to developers, the upcoming next chapter in the battle royale’s long-lasting content support is about to be Titanfall-themed. It’s common knowledge that Apex Legends is a Titanfall spin-off, but Season 9 will allegedly make this connection between the games even more obvious.

The sad story of an Apex Legends player who’s been robbed of all the cosmetic possessions in the game is troubling, to say the least. The worst part is that EA customer support was unwilling to solve the issue and help the gamer return the investments, especially considering it was not the user’s fault by any means. The broken mechanics of account linking is probably to blame, which means stuff like that can happen to anyone. It is scary to imagine how many more players might fall victims to this issue, which should not be ignored by developers.
