Apex Legends Season 4: Assimilation is right around the corner, and with it, players will get to return to Kings Canyon for the first time since Season 2. However, fans won’t be able to drop into Kings Canyon on day one of Assimilation, as they will have to wait until mid-way through the new season.

Season 4 of Apex Legends will be ready on February 4, 2020, which is the one-year anniversary of the game. Along with plenty of new and exciting features for Apex Legends’ fresh season, the Ranked Mode is getting some updates. This time around Ranked Mode will be separated into two distinct splits. The first split will begin as soon as Assimilation starts and will take place on World’s Edge. The second split will take take place on fan-favorite Kings Canyon and begin as soon as the first split ends and will last through the end of Season 4, on May 5.

The rest of the Ranked Mode isn’t seeing major changes. Players will start Season 4 two ranks down from where they ended in Season 3. And, at the halfway mark of Season 4, when players will be switching from World’s Edge to Kings Canyon, players will again drop by two. Players’ end-of-season ranked rewards will be based on whichever their highest ranking was between either of these two splits.

Players have been able to periodically go back to Kings Canyon for limited time events including over Halloween and the current Grand Soiree event. As fun as these events may be, they are small tastes of the full battle royale experience for fans and don’t give the full feel of either standard mode or ranked play of Kings Canyon for Apex Legends.

This also means that in standard modes, Season 4 play will still take place on World’s Edge. World’s Edge has been the playground of the Apex games for Apex Legends since the start of Season 3: Meltdown. Kings Canyon was the original fighting grounds for Apex Legends and was the only place for the battle royale for “pre-season,” Season 1, and Season 2.

Respawn explained that even though World’s Edge will continue as the main map for Season 4: Assimilation, the map will have some overall upgrades and changes, just like Kings Canyon did from Season 1 to Season 2. Each season has seen at least one new Legend enter the mix, with Forge as Season 4’s new Legend. Respawn has also noted that he is the first Legend to be corporately sponsored. Specifically, he is sponsored by Hammond Robotics, a company that was last spotted within the world of Titanfall, a series that has been gaining popularity again lately. Hammond Robotics will be seen throughout World’s Edge as the possible driving force to the upgrades to the alterations to the map. What this means exactly to the lore of Apex Legends is yet to be seen,

Season 4: Assimilation looks to have a lot in store for Apex Legends. Although Respawn has already unveiled some interesting details, fans shouldn’t be shocked if more surprises are right around the corner. This time last year the game didn’t even exist to the public yet, and it ended up being one of the largest games of 2019. One can only imagine what else Respawn has up its sleeve for Apex Legends moving forward.

Apex Legends is free-to-play on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
