Arrow Season 5 Casts Joe Dinicol as Ragman

Arrow continues to ramp up its roster now that the fifth season has begun filming. After Damien Darhk’s ambitious plan to nuke the world was thwarted, citizens of Star City must look to new Interim Mayor, Oliver Queen, to help them get their city back on its feet. With Echo Kellum, who plays Curtis Holt/Mr. Terrific, promoted to series regular, Oliver and Felicity have some help to save their city; but will it be enough?

Star City seems to be the go-to destination for broken people looking to get their lives back on track. Though why people willingly come to Star City with its history of hostile takeovers is a mystery. We can expect appearances from vigilantes Wild Dog, Artemis, and Vigilante in season five. Given Oliver Queen’s own team split up at the end of the fourth season, it’s possible we could see a different team forming with some of these new arrivals, including, perhaps, the newest kid on the block.

A little magic is making its way into Arrow’s fifth season with the addition of Rory Regan, A.K.A. Ragman. EW first reported that former Blindspot and Grey’s Anatomy actor, Joe Dinicol, will be headed to Star City as yet another vigilante from the DC Universe. Even though Arrow promised a return to its roots for season five, with far more focus on non-metahuman heroes and villains, Ragman seems like an appropriate addition despite his mystical origins. EW describes the the character as:

“Fresh from a personal tragedy, Rory hopes to find answers in Star City, where he ultimately crosses paths with Green Arrow.”

Ragman possess the ability to draw on the power of the souls who make up his suit. A relatively obscure DC character, he reads like a combination of Marvel’s Ghost Rider and Mortal Kombat’s Shang Tsung. Ragman’s suit is made of patches from evil souls that he has absorbed; souls who can be released once they’ve served their time aiding Rory in carrying out good deeds. If that remains true in Arrow, then Star City is a perfect place for Rory Regan to build up his powers given the city’s penchant for violence.

The most recent version of Ragman from 2010’s Suit of Souls saw Regan helping the JLA and Green Arrow to defeat a demon. Could this be another bridge connecting Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow? Fans can expect Dinicol to first appear as Rory Regan/Ragman in episode five of Arrow’s fifth season.

Arrow season 5 is scheduled to premiere on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at 8PM ET; The Flash season 3 is slated to air on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at 8PM ET; DC’s Legends of Tomorrow will return on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at 8PM ET, Supergirl will make its season 2 debut on The CW on Monday, October 10, 2016 also at 8PM ET.
