Assassin’s Creed is headed for its own TV adaptation, and there are some characters it should feature, and others who should be avoided altogether.

The adaptation of the Assassin’s Creed game franchise into a TV series has been met with a mixed response. This is due to the lackluster performance of the movie, which had only taken the thematic style of the games and failed to deliver on any depth found in the story.
The best way to make a plot shine is by capitalizing on the quality of the characters, which is what the TV show needs to aim for. This might sound simple enough, but to do so the series has to pick the characters that will be the best fit for storyline purposes and avoid the ones that will prove to be an obstacle.
10 Feature: Warren Vidic
It’s safe to say the decision to bring Alan Rikkin in the Assassin’s Creed film as the evil boss figure didn’t work out. The TV series needs to go to the basics and bring in Warren Vidic, the first true villain the series had.
Vidic lasted for five years in the games, establishing how dastardly the present-day Templars were and keeping these events on course. The TV show will only need to derive this quality into its story, thereby removing the need to create a whole new antagonist and hope he lands with the audience.
9 Avoid: Altair
It might seem like a natural choice to bring in the assassin most consider to be the best one yet, but it would also be taking things far too easy. After all, Altair is very well known amongst the fans, which would rule out surprising audiences with the protagonist.
Altair’s time period also isn’t the most engaging one, meaning it’s better to do away with him entirely. Altair was a great assassin, but the TV series needs a lead who can carve out a characterization of their own.
8 Feature: Desmond Miles
The biggest mistake made by the 2016 film was to bring in a protagonist nobody cared about. Desmond Miles can be adapted into the TV series hero as well, seeing as he was presented as an everyman who never took center stage, so the show can be creative with him.
Even if a new protagonist is used, Desmond should still be present in order to ease the transition into a new hero in the minds of fans. He could even be shown during the events of the game series by means of a crossover with the TV show.
7 Avoid: William Miles
There might be a need for an evil boss figure, but there’s absolutely no use for a “good” boss like William Miles. The guy always lurks around with half-answers and no exposition. Characters like him are among the reasons why the film series doesn’t deserve another chance since they bore audiences.
William’s role can easily be divided between more relevant characters, or he could be shown through laptop chats as quite a few of the games have done. William has never been sympathetic or charming, making him totally useless as a potentially adapted character.
6 Feature: Lucy Stillman
The games featuring Lucy Stillman are the ones with the most potential to be films of their own. She brought a sense of urgency to the proceedings, sprucing up the pace and making it seem as if things were on a very grand scale.
Considering she was played and modeled after Kristen Bell, the same actress can be brought back to play her in live-action. Lucy’s status as a Templar double agent is a point that should be expanded in the TV series, as it wasn’t given much time in the games.
5 Avoid: Any Version Of The Sage
The arc of the Sage was a pretty big fiasco in the game series, with the ones featuring this storyline being the weakest of the bunch. The Sages would be reincarnations of Juno’s husband, always with the agenda of bringing her back and failing each time.
This character went nowhere in the end and would only make the TV series confusing since it will have to be explained how the Sage has existed throughout time. This arc has no potential whatsoever, so any version of the Sage should instantly be rejected for a role in the series.
4 Feature: Shaun Hastings
It was pretty common to see Shaun’s return in the wish lists for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, as his sardonic energy had been missed. He’s the right counterbalance for an otherwise heavy theme, as Shaun’s sarcastic nature tends to freshen things up.
He could be placed in a similar role to what he has in the games, with the potential to be the go-to guy for the main character. Shaun doesn’t need to be the protagonist, as his initial habit of being a jerk could even be translated into a villainous turn for him in the TV series.
3 Avoid: Juno
The occasional overacting that’s present in the series has led to several memes at the expense of Assassin’s Creed. A large contributor to this is Juno, whose repeated claims of taking over — then not ever going through with it — made her a joke amongst the fans.
This kind of bait-and-switch won’t work for the TV show since it needs to keep a consistent pace. Juno isn’t even a believable villain since she clashes so much in presentation with the assassins. Altogether, incorporating her is more of a hurdle than what she’s worth.
2 Feature: Adam And Eve
Most fans are still unaware of the exact role of Adam and Eve in the game series. That’s because their part in the uprising against the Isu has never been fully explained. This is where the TV series can shine, as it will have all the time needed to explain the Human-Isu war.
Adam and Eve can be shown in their own arcs presented either in the form of frequent flashbacks or entire episodes that run parallel alongside the present-day storylines. This can be the best chance for their story to be told and understood by the fans.
1 Avoid: Subject 16
The mystery of who Subject 16 was dominated the earlier games, lasting all the way until the reveal of his identity in Assassin’s Creed: Revelations. When the time did come, the character was relatively underwhelming, not really bringing in anything new and being wasted potential.
The TV series won’t have the benefit of carrying this mystery since fans already know who Subject 16 is. Since he’ll be disposed of fairly quickly, there’s no point in adapting him into a new character either. Overall, Subject 16 is the kind of mystery character who only works once in a while, and bringing him to the TV show won’t do the trick.
