Bachelor Becca Kufrin Told Matt James To Ask Contestants How They Voted

Becca Kufrin revealed that she gave Matt James some advice about the right questions to ask his contestants on The Bachelor. She said she should have asked all her suitors about who they voted for and why.

Becca Kufrin first appeared on Arie Luyendyk’s season of The Bachelor. She won the season and was engaged to Arie for a few short weeks before he ruthlessly dumped her on camera to ask out his runner-up, Lauren Burnham. Bachelor fans were outraged by his behavior and embraced Becca as the next Bachelorette. She was immediately smitten with Garrett Yrigoyen, and they ultimately got engaged at the end of the show. After the season began airing, fans found suspicious social media activity on Garrett’s accounts. He liked posts mocking transgender people, immigrants, and a victim of a school shooting. Despite this setback, Becca and Garrett remained engaged for two years. In 2020, during the protests of George Floyd’s murder, Garrett once again posted something controversial on social media. He revealed that he supported Blue Lives Matter, which led to Becca breaking off their engagement.

Becca has now said that, if she were to re-do her season, she would have asked the contestants who they voted for and why, as reported by Insider. She passed this advice onto current Bachelor Matt James before his season began filming. “Look, If I was Bachelorette again, the second I walked into the house after meeting everyone I would say, ‘Who did you vote for and why? Let’s talk about it,'” Becca said to Insider. “I told [Matt], ‘When you get down to the girls you can actually picture starting a life with and introducing to your family, make sure you’re asking the right questions,” she continued, “Make sure you’re not walking away from this experience with any of these women wishing you still had more time to get to know them or figure out who they are.” Becca acknowledged that these political conversations would never get aired, but were vital to finding the right person.

This is good advice, not only because of Becca’s own experience, but also because of what has come out about some of Matt’s contestants since the show began airing. Rachael Kirkconnell, a frontrunner, has been accused of brownfishing, bullying, and sharing a QAnon graphic on her Instagram. The bullying accusations claim racially-motivated attacks. Victoria Larson defended a selfie she posted and deleted that showed a Trump flag in the background.

While many people are calling for ABC to do a better job casting contestants, it’s important to remember that the lead has a choice whether to ask these questions or not. Hopefully, Matt will follow Becca’s advice and find true love in the process.
