Back 4 Blood developer Turtle Rock Studios recently announced it acknowledges the game’s difficulty is higher than originally intended, and it is working on resolving the limitation in future updates. The new first-person cooperative shooter and spiritual successor to Left 4 Dead released last October, and is turning out to be much more difficult than the game it was inspired by – especially when played at Back 4 Blood’s other available difficulty levels.

Back 4 Blood has become quite popular since it was released, with over 6 million players trying out the game so far across all the platforms it’s currently available on. And those who have been and are still enjoying the game so far have quite a lot more to be excited about as Turtle Rock Studios has a pretty hefty update roadmap for Back 4 Blood that extends well into 2022.

Turtle Rock Studios posted a recap of its recent stream on the game’s subreddit, which detailed some of the difficulty-level issues the studio is currently tackling. According to the studio, it wants to find the right balance for the game’s difficulty by adjusting its card systems, spawning systems, AI and more. The first issue that Turtle Rock Studios discussed is the high spawn rate of Back 4 Blood’s specia,l Ridden. While the studio released an earlier fix that was intended to deal with the problem, it identified another issue and is currently working on a solution.

The studio discussed the Back 4 Blood’s Trauma damage system, which it says is dealing out too quickly. A fix for this has already rolled out on the game’s servers for online play, while a downloadable update that will also fix the issue for the game’s offline modes will be released in the future. Turtle Rock Studios added it is working on curbing the currently popular speedrunning playstyle, which leads to situations that see one player using a speedrun build leaving the rest of their team behind. The studio explained it is committed to continue balancing and rebalancing the game in the future, and plans to include future card changes with the game’s larger updates, which could potentially help the studio be more effective with their balance changes.

Turtle Rock Studios acknowledging Back 4 Blood is apparently more difficult than originally intended may relieve players who have been struggling with getting through some of the game’s more challenging areas and difficulty levels. Now, at least, players can look forward to – not only a more accessible challenge – a more balanced experience.
