Batman 10 Dark Storylines The HBO Max Series Should Adapt

With Zack Snyder’s Justice League getting plenty of attention, there have been rumors of Ben Affleck returning to Batman. Robert Pattinson will be taking over the theatrical world with Matt Reeves’ The Batman. Meanwhile, Ben could be owning HBO Max with an original series.

This would make fans happy as many feel that Affleck wasn’t given his due as Batman. His Batman never even got any on-screen time with his Joker. So a series seems like a great solution; it could allow Ben Affleck and company to adapt plenty of dark storylines from the past into the DC Extended Universe.

10 Public Enemies

The chemistry between Ben Affleck’s Batman and Henry Cavill’s Superman is perfect. Their interactions with one another as both enemies and allies in the DCEU are straight out of the comics. Unfortunately, their time as allies was very brief in the theatrical cut of Justice League.

With the Public Enemies storyline, Henry Cavill could guest star thus allowing to see more of the World’s Finest. To keep the darkness of the DCEU, the two heroes being outlawed as “Public Enemies” would make for a perfect team-up to let the two actors shine.

9 Zero Year

One of Ben Affleck’s most defining elements for his Batman is that he’s a veteran. Batman has been operating in Gotham for twenty years by the events of Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice. Batman hints that he’s seen a lot that has sent him down an even darker path.

So how different was Ben Affleck’s Batman when he began? This is where Zero Year comes in. Similar to The Batman, an episode could flashback to during the first few weeks or months of Batman’s career. This could lead to villains like Doctor Death being added to the mythos.

8 Knightfall

Over the years, the character of Bane has risen to similar heights as the Joker. With a Batman series, fans will be requesting for Bane to make his debut. What better way to introduce Bane than with the story that erupted the character’s fame?

While the story was previously done in The Dark Knight Rises, fans would still love to see Affleck’s version of the story. Plus, fans are still wanting Dave Bautista in the role of Bane himself.

7 A Lonely Place of Dying

Jason Todd’s death left Batman in a terrible place in the comics. The DCEU has established that the death of a Robin has left Ben’s Batman horribly scarred. So it would seem like the perfect time to introduce the Robin that brought back the light in Batman: Tim Drake.

Every Robin needs a Batman and Batman needs a Robin. Tim Drake stated this line, volunteering for the role of the new Robin after using detective work to discover Bruce’s identity. A Lonely Place Of Dying would be the perfect conclusion for Batman’s character arc that began with Batman V Superman.

6 Heart Of Ice

When it comes to villains who deserve a shot in the DCEU? The majority of fans put Mr. Freeze in their top ten. Mr. Freeze was previously adapted in both Batman & Robin and Fox’s Gotham: both were not the Freeze fans hoped for.

With a larger budget series on HBO Max, Mr. Freeze can easily be done. The Heart Of Ice storyline could lead to one of the more tear-jerking episodes. Freeze is a villain that’s easy to feel sorry for which typically makes for the best antagonists.

5 As the Crow Flies

In Justice League, it was essentially confirmed that Batman had encountered the Penguin in the past. One of the darker stories featuring Oswald Cobblepott would be As The Crow Flies which also starred the Scarecrow.

Despite having a great introduction in Batman Begins, Scarecrow was used very poorly in the sequels. As The Crow Flies would be the perfect showcase for how vile both villains are as threats. Once again, adding even more to Affleck’s Batman world.

4 Arkham Asylum

Batman, stuck in a maximum-security prison holding his greatest foes? How has this not been used in a movie yet? The Arkham games have become as iconic for Batman as The Dark Knight or Batman from 1989.

Arkham Asylum would make for a perfect season opener down the line. Assemble Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, and the various villains of the DCEU Batman world and have them trying to kill Ben Affleck.

3 Hush

After fans were divisive about the animated adaptation, perhaps the HBO series can do the story better. Hush introduces one of the best modern Batman villains ever made known as Hush.

The character grew so famous that he became a standout side-mission in the Arkham games. As a series, HBO can take the time to do the storyline justice. It can also really showcase the range that Ben Affleck is capable of.

2 Death In The Family

That mounted and graffiti-clad Robin suit in Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice planted the seeds perfectly for something; the story of Jason Todd’s death at the hands of The Joker. With Jared Leto returning to the DCEU, HBO Max should take full advantage of him.

Show an entire episode or two dedicated to the Death In The Family arc. Show the heartbreak that led to Batman’s darkness in Batman V Superman; at the same time, set up the story every fan has been asking for.

1 Under The Hood

After Death In The Family, it would be criminal not to adapt Under The Hood. The aftermath of Robin’s death that features Batman battling a mysterious criminal known as The Red Hood.

If done right, Under The Hood would result in possibly the best comic book related story on TV. Ben Affleck is a perfect age, his Batman is dark and gritty enough, and Jared Leto’s Joker could return once again for more Batman and Joker scenes. It could even be Ben Affleck’s swan song for Batman.
