Final Fantasy 7 How to Defeat Reno

Final Fantasy 7 remake brings players against Reno, a member of the Turk division of Shinra. This guide will help players understand what it takes to defeat him. The Shinra organization is the main antagonist for Final Fantasy 7. Cloud, the main protagonist of the game, joins a group called Avalanche on missions to liberate the planet from the Shinra company. Shinra has crafted reactors all around Midgar with the ability to suck out the mako, the planet’s life energy, out of the planet and use it as an energy source. Avalanche fights for the safety of the planet and its people, as they believe Shinra is destroying the planet by removing the lifeblood from it. Along the way, Cloud teams up with Tifa, an old childhood friend, Barret, the leader behind Avalanche, and later meets Aerith, a local florist who meets Cloud through a twist of fate. The game faithfully recreates these characters and adds new story elements for each of these characters to demonstrate their characteristics. Shinra is also full of creative and unique characters like the Turks, an elite division of Shinra who works inside the Department of Public Safety under Heidegger, a Shinra executive. This guide will help players defeat one of the Turks’ more colorful characters, Reno.

The battle with Reno begins at the start of chapter 8. Cloud, Tifa, and Barret face off against the Airbuster while trying to destroy the mako reactor in Sector 5. After defeating the boss, the blast scatters the team to different locations, sending Cloud deep into a dark pit. Cloud awakens inside of a church, landing on a bed of yellow flowers. This is where Cloud meets Aerith, a local girl who takes care of these floors in her free time. Her lighthearted nature quickly melts the ice-cold shell surrounding Cloud’s heart, as he begins to take a liking to her personality. After Cloud agrees to become her bodyguard and help escort her home, Shinra guards appear in the church, being lead by the Turks’ Reno. Reno is an exuberant character that doesn’t hold back when it comes to mocking Cloud. After a short cutscene, a battle begins between Cloud, Reno, and a few Shinra guards. This guide will help players understand what it takes to defeat Reno in combat.

Defeating Reno in Final Fantasy 7

Defeating the guards is the first priority, as removing them from the battle makes it easier to focus on Reno without any outside interference. If the player is struggling to take them down, use the Triple Slash that comes along with Cloud’s Iron Blade. The Triple Slash will quickly defeat all of the guards as it does a decent amount of damage to each. The first way will quickly fall, then Reno will send another wave. Use Triple Slash again to get rid of them quickly. Reno will quickly make his way down off of the pillar and face Cloud one-on-one.

For starters, enter Punisher Mode and wait for Reno to attack first. Reno’s attack movements are very fast, so block while in Punisher Mode to counter his physical attacks. After the counter, land a few combos before Reno runs away from the attack. Players should also use the Focus Thrust ability for massive damage. Keep this up until Reno enters the next phase of his fight. Another small cutscene will play, showing Reno set up EM mines. Falling into these will leave Cloud stunned and ready to get damaged by Reno. Although, these easily go down by using the Triple Slash ability as well.

The speed of Cloud’s movements will keep him away from being damaged. At some point, Reno will use EM Flail, a move where he attaches his EM to his electric baton. Avoid this move by running away or dodge at the right time. Blocking it won’t do Cloud any good. Any of his moves using his electric baton will stun Cloud in all instances, so avoid blocking these or countering and run away from these until he stops. Attack him when he plans on using normal physical attacks. Countering is also effective, as it not only shortly stuns Reno, but provides the player with ATB. Repeat this process until Reno is out of HP. Defeating Reno will provide the player with 12000 EXP, 30 AP, 600 gil, and a bottle of ether.

Once the fight is over, ghost-like phantom creatures will begin to enter the Church. This will provide Cloud and Aerith with a chance to escape Reno and the Shinra guards. When exploring the church, Reno and the guards will go after Aerith and Cloud. Focus on escaping the church first, as eventually Reno will give up and leave them behind. The Final Fantasy 7 remake is a faithful recreation of the original title that changed the gaming landscape as we know it today. Because of the original Final Fantasy 7, many titles have been able to follow their footsteps by creating games with immersive stories and fun gameplay. The remake also features entirely new areas within Midgar to explore and new characters like Andrea and Leslie to help fill in some of the gaps in the story. One of the game’s biggest triumphs is providing more context around the characters Biggs, Jessie, and Wedge. As these characters were in the original Final Fantasy 7, they are fairly forgettable in the grand scheme of things in that title. In the remake, the game takes its time to develop each of them individually with back-stories and entire chapters dedicated to giving them personalities. One of the bigger additions comes in chapter 4, where Jessie plans to visit her family on the upper plates of Midgar. There are many instances like this in the remake, and it’s not like anything the world has seen for this franchise. It not only is one of the most gorgeous games to ever exist but it also recreates one of gaming’s most iconic stories in such a respectful way. Reno is just a small part of what makes Midgar and Final Fantasy 7 remake feel alive.
