Batman v Superman Dawn of Justice The New Batwing Revealed

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is certainly no stranger to leaks, having gone through a number of script leaks, a leak of the trailer – which subsequently led to the official trailer being released early – and the recently leaked full-color image of Ben Affleck in his new Batsuit. With BvS already finished with production, this sort of thing is bound to happen. Then again, considering the film’s still a year away from release (minus a month), DC/Warner Bros. can’t be too happy about it. Now, courtesy of El Mayimbe, the film has another leak, this time of the winged variety. Which is to say, we’re finally getting a very detailed look at the film’s new Batwing.

Check it out below:

RT! #EXCLUSIVE! #AskElMayimbe Your first detailed look at the #BATWING from #BatmanvSuperman! That’s the logo from my new outlet watermaked on bottom right. For now we’re just a symbol. “People need dramatic examples to shake them out of apathy and I can’t do that as Bruce Wayne. As a man, I’m flesh and blood, I can be ignored, I can be destroyed; but as a symbol…as a symbol I can be incorruptible, I can be everlasting.” #Batman #HH #dccu #dccomics #dc #dcmovie

You may recall that we previously got a very brief look at The Batwing from behind in the recently released trailer. The trailer seemed to indicate that The Batwing was firing explosive projectiles near (at?) the bad guys down below, which irritated many a Bat-fan on the Internet. Batman, after all, has a pretty stringent no-kill policy.

Of course, considering the explosions happened as part of a montage of quick shots, it’s not clear exactly what was going on in that scene. Maybe the explosions were unrelated to The Batwing? Maybe that wasn’t actually The Batwing? Maybe Lex Luthor had taken control of The Batwing? And then there’s also the possibility that this Batman is just a killer. It wouldn’t be the first time. (He killed pretty liberally both in the early comics and in Tim Burton’s films.)

As for the new design, it seems to be more or less in line with the design of the Batman v Superman Batmobile. For my money, it looks a little too much like it would be at home in the Christopher Nolan movies. Not that there’s anything wrong with that aesthetic, I was just hoping that this film would be a more drastic departure from the Dark Knight movies (which it is, in some ways – e.g., the Batsuit).

Variations of The Batwing have appeared in the Tim Burton, Joel Schumacher, and Nolan movies. In Batman (1989), we saw the most classic version of The Batwing, which was actually shaped like Batman’s Bat symbol. In Batman Forever, we saw a more “toyified” Batwing (it could turn into a Batboat!). And finally, in The Dark Knight Rises, we saw “The Bat” – not exactly The Batwing, but the closest those films came to doing it.

For my money, the best on screen version so far has been Burton’s sleek and simple take. But what say you, Screen Ranters? Do you like the look of the new Batwing? Drop us a line in the comments.
