With the Battlefield 2042 beta underway, fans are picking the game apart and realizing there are some features from past games that have been excluded this time around. As just a beta, the game is currently missing a variety of features that are either confirmed or likely to be in the game at launch. That said, Battlefield 2042 is currently dealing with some issues amid its pre-launch testing.

The Battlefield 2042 beta has problems that are reportedly detracting from its gaming experience. Generally speaking, the beta feels like a true beta – which might be alarming to some, given public betas have recently become more akin to demos for upcoming games. As it is now, Battlefield 2042 has lots of bugs, graphical issues, and features that are outright disabled or non-functional. There are no grenade indicators, the map key is disabled on PC, the command wheel is either disabled for the beta or not a game feature, and more. That said, these issues are relatively small and can probably be added in time for launch.

However, there are some features included in previous series installments that probably won’t make launch. Even though the Battlefield 2042 beta is an older build from a few months ago, some players appear to be worried about the state of the game. Reddit user GreenyMyMan recently compiled a video of past Battlefield games’ features that seem to be missing from the upcoming iteration. Some of the mechanics included in the video were probably cut due to the direction of this entry, such as fortifications. But others – such as crouch sprinting, laying down on the players’ back, and reduced destruction – are comparatively more confusing omissions.

As it stands, some of these features inherently impact the gameplay. Without the ability to see squad mates’ locations and in the squad spawning menu, players might be prone to spawning in places with either no action or too much action to handle. Battlefield 2042 was delayed to November, so hopefully DICE will get some extra time to flesh out some of these missing (and further enhance its existing) mechanics.

Despite these reductions, Battlefield 2042 does feature new content. On top of the new vehicles and weapons that come with its near-future in-game setting, players can also experience tornadoes, 128-player lobbies, the ability to switch attachments on the fly mid-game, and more. Whether or not these additions are enough to make up for its omissions remains to be seen.
