Developer Riverside Sports has apparently developed a Battlefield 2042 parody, Clownfield 2042, that PC users can Wishlist on Steam. Clearly, this project counts as a blatant shot at Battlefield 2042’s disastrous launch, which was beset by an abundance of bugs across all platforms. The crew at DICE issued multiple post-release patches to address the most widespread issues, yet many a player and critic couldn’t help but wonder why the shooter hit digital storefronts and retailers in such a poor state.

Some corners of the internet even went so far as to compare Battlefield 2042’s release to that of Cyberpunk 2077 late last year. Whether or not such a comparison is warranted should be left for each individual user to decide. Still, this seems a bad look for a beloved FPS series that once commanded respect due to the high quality of its content offerings. It appears as though the roasting of Battlefield 2042 won’t soon come to an end, either.

Battlefield 2042 parody Clownfield 2042 recently appeared on Steam, as noted by MP1st. According to the Steam page, Clownfield 2042 exists in a world post the 2022 cryptocrash. Nations around the globe collapsed, giving way to a “No-Clowns” union in which the player operates. From there, the game page becomes rather humorous, teasing an All Out Clownfare mode wherein “mediocre weather and world events” pervade large multiplayer maps. Players can also look forward to three distinct maps – War Island, Paradise City, and The Heat – and a “pretty basic” AI system that should prove “good enough.” Steam users can Wishlist Clownfield 2042 right now; supposedly, Riverside Sports plans to deploy the parody experience on December 31. While the graphics and gameplay don’t compare to Battlefield 2042, Clownfield 2042 appears as though it could offer a good deal of fun. If it does indeed launch at the end of the year, those who give it a try could be in for a treat.

DICE has no plans to further patch Battlefield 2042 for the remainder of the year, though the studio launched a winter event yesterday for all players to partake in. The event in question features a limited-time mode, Attack of the Elves, that pits Team Santa against Team Elves in an infection-like game mode. Attack of the Elves and the 64-player Conquest will remain live until January 6, 2022.
