In preparation for the launch of Battlefield 2042, EA DICE has reminded players to abide by its community charter and not be jerks when playing with others. Many online multiplayer games suffer due to toxicity from other players, something that EA is hoping to avoid when Battlefield 2042’s beta goes live, as well as when the full game launches in November.

Battlefield 2042 is set to be one of the biggest shooters of the year, blending new-gen performance and combat with classic Battlefield experiences thanks to the mode creation tools and map remakes included with Battlefield Portal. The game takes place in the near future, challenging players with all-out warfare featuring dynamically changing battlegrounds, fully destructible buildings, and an arsenal of modern weaponry. On PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, the game will support up to 128 players in the series’ biggest maps to date. Battlefield 2042 will only support 64 players on older consoles.

Ahead of the October beta, EA DICE has shared its Community Charter, a “commitment to Positive Play” within Battlefield 2042, as part of the wider EA Positive Play initiative. The developer has reminded players that the game welcomes fans of any race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, heritage, or country of origin, and asks others to respect this. The charter also asks players to “treat others as they would like to be treated,” declaring a no-tolerance policy for players who “negatively disrupt or engage in harmful behavior towards others.” As well as addressing bullying, harassment, and trolling, the charter also emphasizes that cheating, spamming, and griefing will also not be tolerated. EA has confirmed that bans will be issued against those who don’t abide by its community guidelines, stating:

“Failing to follow these guidelines will have consequences meaning your time on the battlefield will come to an end. We may place restrictions on your account and revoke your access to Battlefield 2042. If you have repeat or severe instances, we may permanently terminate your EA account.”

EA’s Positive Play commitment sums up its aims succinctly, stating in its Do and Don’t section for all EA games: “Don’t be a jerk.”

While many online multiplayer games offer enjoyable and safe spaces for their players, there are plenty of releases that have struggled with problematic users. Rockstar Games’ Red Dead Online has often been called out for its griefing problem, with a large number of players simply aiming to kill and loot others for their own personal gain. Cheating is also a growing issue, especially in free-to-play games like Call of Duty: Warzone where cheaters can get around bans by making new accounts.

EA’s Positive Play charter seems to suggest that Battlefield 2042 won’t hold back when it comes to issuing bans, which will hopefully ensure the game is fair and enjoyable for everyone. Battlefield 2042 isn’t the only game to fall under EA’s Positive Play initiative. All EA games, services, and platforms are part of EA’s commitment to making gaming a positive, safe, and fun space for all. Hopefully the upcoming shooter won’t suffer from cheaters and trolls when Battlefield 2042 launches on November 19.
