Batwoman Season 3 News & Updates Everything We Know

Following the Batwoman season 2 finale, what can audiences expect to see in Batwoman season 3, including release date, cast, and potential story? The CW’s DC TV universe had a unique experience this year as the second season of Batwoman did something no other Arrowverse show had ever previously done, recasting a new actress in the titular role. After Ruby Rose left the series, instead of recasting Kate Kane then, the creators introduced a brand-new character in Javicia Leslie’s Ryan Wilder, and she took over the Batwoman mantle for season 2. This was the first time in the franchise’s entire history where a lead got replaced after the first season.

While Wallis Day has since taken over the Kate Kane role, Batwoman now follows the exploits of Ryan as Gotham City’s Caped Crusader. Like most of the Arrowverse dramas this year, Batwoman season 2 had a shorter episode order due to the global pandemic. Other stories and planned events were canceled, as well. For example, the Arrowverse was set to have a Batwoman and Superman & Lois crossover but had to scrap it due to the risks of COVID-19.

As Ryan came into her own as the Arrowverse’s latest heroine, Batwoman season 2 had her and her allies go up against Black Mask and Safiyah. However, the new Batwoman and her team had to take on Kate Kane, as well, as she had been brainwashed into thinking she was Black Mask’s daughter, Circe Sionis. Now that the second season has concluded, what can fans expect from Batwoman season 3?

Batwoman Season 3 Renewal

Batwoman Season 3 News & Updates Everything We Know

A good thing about The CW Arrowverse superhero universe is that, for the most part, fans rarely have to wait for too long to find out whether or not their favorite shows are coming back for another season. After airing only three episodes of the second season of Batwoman, Batwoman season 3 was greenlit along with other Arrowverse shows like The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, and, later on, Superman & Lois and Stargirl. So far, it is unknown how many episodes Batwoman season 3 will be getting, which is not unusual as that doesn’t get revealed until much later.

The Batwoman season 2 finale set up many new mysteries for next season. It also appears that there will not be one specific main villain in Batwoman season 3, but multiple antagonists. In the final shot of the finale, several Batman trophies like Poison Ivy’s vines, Penguin’s umbrella, and Mad Hatter’s hat were released to the public. Based on Batwoman showrunner Caroline Dries’s recent comments, some of those iconic Batman baddies will be playing a key role next season. Another big new storyline for Batwoman season 3 is the introduction of Ryan’s biological mother, as Alice revealed that she never died during childbirth after all.

Following the finale, Batwoman season 3 will see the return of Javicia Leslie as Ryan Wilder/Batwoman, Meagan Tandy as Sophie Moore, Camrus Johnson as Luke Fox/Batwing, Nicole Kang as Mary Hamilton, and Rachel Skarsten as Alice/Beth Kane. The only new series regular for Batwoman season 2 was Leslie, but an original cast member is departing the Bat-centric series ahead of season 3. According to Dries, Dougray Scott’s Jacob Kane will officially not be back next season. As for Day’s Kate Kane, the Batwoman season 2 finale is, for now, the last fans will see of her, but they’re leaving the door open for her to return.

Batwoman Season 3 Release Date

Due to the global pandemic, fans had to wait even longer for Batwoman season 2 as safety guidelines were still being worked out when COVID-19 had everything shut down in 2020.
