Ben Affleck Calls MCU’s Kevin Feige As The Greatest Producer Ever

Ben Affleck has nothing but high praise for Marvel Studios CCO Kevin Feige, calling him the greatest producer that has ever lived. Before he debuted as DCEU’s Bruce Wayne/Batman via Zack Snyder’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, he was also once part of Marvel playing Matt Murdoch in the 2003 film Daredevil. He starred in the film opposite Jennifer Garner as Elektra and Jon Favreau as Foggy Nelson.

Favreau, who directed Iron Man where he also played Happy Hogan wasn’t the only person from the Fox-produced movie to eventually board the MCU when it began in 2008. Feige was also a producer on Daredevil, working with Affleck. It’s unknown to what extent Feige’s impact was on the movie, but Affleck is positively impressed with him, especially with what he’s able to do since launching the MCU more than a decade ago.

Speaking with THR Awards Chatter Podcast, Affleck looked back at the highs and lows of his career, including his time playing the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen. While he admitted that Daredevil wasn’t exactly well-made, he showered Feige with praises, eventually calling him “the most successful producer who ever lived.”

“F***ing Kevin Feige is absolutely, you have to say, the greatest producer, most successful producer who ever lived. He’s the only guy in the world who, if he told me, ‘I know what the audience wants! This is what we’re doing!’ I would believe him 100%.” That f***er knows his audience like no producer (ever), he’s a genius. Kevin is like a ringmaster at the circus, he knows exactly how much to wink at the audience, exactly when to pull at the heartstrings, exactly when to do the effects, how many jokes, what the sensibility, what the tone is. Because people didn’t know to run away from the pajamas or embrace it, or make it serious.”

That’s such high praise coming from Affleck who has been in countless films and has worked with a string of producers in varying extent considering that he also writes and directs films. It’s easy to forget that before Feige took the risk and established Marvel Studios, he’d long been involved with Marvel films, producing some of the early comic book movies for the brand. Feige insisted that Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine print-accurate hair; this commitment to the source material remains to be at the heart of his work at MCU. For the most part, they’re able to strike a balance between honoring what came before in the comic books and modernizing it for the casual audience. Granted that not everyone is a fan of the MCU, it would be hard-pressed to find anyone who’s not impressed with what Feige and his team were able to build.

Now, Feige is taking another risk as Marvel Studios goes through a rebuilding phase following the Infinity Saga. The first project out of the gate is the sitcom-inspired WandaVision which is already promising solely based on initial reviews. After that, he’ll also dabble with Star Wars as he’s set to produce a film set in the galaxy far, far away. While Affleck didn’t express any intention of working with Feige again, it would be cool for them to team up in the future and come up with something better than Daredevil.
