While many of us enjoy watching The Big Bang Theory on repeat now that the show has been and gone, there are also more than a few things about the series that we’ve come to dislike.

For example, many of us have characters we like and characters we don’t like – and for us, Howard Wolowitz falls into the latter of those two categories.

Today, we’re going to explore 10 of the reasons why we could generally do without Howard’s presence in the show. He may be an important piece of the puzzle, but we can’t pretend like he doesn’t infuriate us.

10 Constant Sarcasm

It’s all well and good having a character that chimes in with something funny every now and then, but there’s a boundary that you have to try and avoid crossing. A perfect example of this would be Chandler Bing in Friends, who always seemed to get the timing just right.

Howard, on the other hand, pops up with a sarcastic remark every other time he speaks. It makes him come across as more of a ‘bro’ than a nerd, and it pulls him further away from the geeky guy we actually like.

9 Frustrating Dress Sense

Between Raj and Howard, there’s something frustrating about their lack of any real evolution in the costume department.

Leonard matures and develops his look with age whereas Sheldon can pull off his look due to the nature of his personality, but the other two leave us feeling more than a little bit confused.

Howard’s style is fun for the first few seasons but beyond that, it just doesn’t work. He doesn’t even look all that comfortable in it by the time we get to the show’s final episode, and we can’t say that we blame him.

8 Treatment Of Raj

For two guys who are supposed to be friends, Howard and Raj do seem to bicker quite a bit.

Raj is unlucky in love and we’re all well aware of that, but the show drives that theory into the ground time and time again with Howard constantly taking shots at him.

If these ‘jokes’ were well thought out or delivered then we probably wouldn’t mind that much, but in the end, we’re all left wondering why Raj chooses to put up with this nonsense.

When he blocked Howard out of his life for a while, he actually seemed to gain more of an identity.

7 Doctorate Insecurities

The boys take a lot of stick from Howard but they also give it back, mainly in the form of mockery over him not having a doctorate – with Sheldon leading the charge in that regard.

It’s clearly something he’s insecure about, but it takes him an awfully long time to even come close to doing something about it.

It’s not exactly his own fault that the teasing takes place, but if you’re going to try and rectify it, at least do a bit more to make your own career path sound desirable because it’s actually quite impressive.

6 Mars Rover Incident

The Mars rover, also known as Curiosity, is a car-sized rover desired to explore the crater Gale on the planet of Mars. That’s not just in the show, either, that’s a real thing.

In the show, in order to try and impress a girl, Howard shows off the rover to her before actually crashing it.

The fact that he put his own love life ahead of an incredibly important piece of technology like the rover just kind of gives you an idea of what Howard was like back in the early days.

5 Wars With Sheldon

We can understand the frustrations that Howard has in relation to his numerous run-ins with Sheldon, but we’re still not entirely sure what it is he wants to accomplish when he bites back at the unorthodox Texan.

Instead of trying to be the bigger man, he constantly tries to get one over on him. As opposed to a friendship taking place between the two, they give off the appearance of two guys who only really tolerate each other in order to remain friends with Leonard.

That doesn’t seem like a happy existence to us.

4 Howard vs Stewart

Howard and Stewart were decent friends right up until Stewart became a little bit too friendly with Howard’s mom.

It never got to a point where they were in a relationship, but Howard clearly felt a significant level of discomfort in the situation.

Stewart didn’t help matters, but again, Howard just couldn’t seem to get out of the way of his own ego. It was a real shame to see things disintegrate between them, mainly because it felt like 90% of the issues were on Howard’s end instead of Stewart’s.

3 Talking Down Leonard’s Relationships

Despite Howard not exactly being the definition of a ladies’ man, he felt the need to put down Leonard at every available opportunity.

Some will describe this as banter and nothing more, but at times, he appeared to be actively rooting against the success of Leonard and Penny – and, well, Leonard with pretty much any other companion.

Part of that may be due to jealousy, courtesy of Howard’s behavior that we’ll be coming onto shortly. Whatever the case may be, though, Leonard was the one who came out of this looking like the good guy in our book.

2 Early Season Sleaze

If you took away the background noise of the audience laughing, a lot of Howard’s lines would come across as incredibly creepy.

That’s part of who his character is, of course, and we understand and appreciate the work that was put into developing him, but that kind of persona lasts quite a while in the minds of the fans.

It was great to see Howard settle down with Bernadette, but in the grand scheme of things, she probably could’ve done a lot better.

He was funny at points, but those points were simply too spread out.

1 The Mom Complex

There’s nothing wrong with being close with your mother, but the scenes between Howard and his mom didn’t really do anything for a lot of fans. The whole ‘we can’t see her’ aspect of things got old quickly, and so did the momma’s boy act.

Then, when he went on to his relationship with Bernadette, she picked up the slack and played the role of both his mom and his partner.

At times, you have to feel bad for their children, because Howard wasn’t really in the mix all too much compared to Bernadette.
