Before Katie Thurston and Blake Moynes from The Bachelorette announced their split this week, the couple seemed to be following the path of a happily ever after. Blake joined Katie’s season halfway through after he realized she was someone he could see himself proposing to. Once he arrived, Katie was unsure about letting him stay in the competition, as he had just appeared on the previous season of The Bachelorette vying for Tayshia Adams, who was one of the co-hosts of season 17.
In the end, Katie, who celebrated her Bachelor journey, decided to let Blake stay. They immediately went on a one-on-one date together, and after their date, Katie started to realize that Blake had the potential to be a great husband. Thus, she decided to let him officially join the competition. Even though Katie had feelings for other men there, Blake was someone who intrigued her.
Blake Slides Into Katie’s DMs
Katie and Blake first connected after he sent her a direct message on social media while she was competing on Matt James’ season of The Bachelor. Blake admitted in July on the Click Bait podcast that Katie’s initial responses were actually very “cold.” The 31-year-old said she was “nice,” but she shut down any type of conversation right away. He decided to reach out to Katie, who shared a wildlife bond with Blake, after the premiere episode when she exited the limo with a vibrator. Watching the show, Blake seemed to be very impressed with her confidence and found it attractive.
Blake Joins Katie’s Season & Gets Engaged
Blake arrived on Katie’s season of The Bachelorette during a July 2021 episode at her request. While some of the men there were not impressed, Katie did what she felt was right for her. The pair went on the first date after Blake arrived by going on a horseback riding date. During their alone time, Blake asked her how she became so sex-positive, to which she attributed to surviving sexual assault and wanting to take her power back. Just a few weeks after that first date, Blake proposed to Katie at the finale, and she accepted the proposal.
They Commit To A Long Distance Relationship
Despite Blake being based in Canada and Katie in San Diego, the newly engaged couple was determined to make their relationship work. During the After the Final Rose special, Katie and Blake went on a cross-country trip to his hometown of Hamilton, Ontario. They seemed to be having a great time and putting in the effort to make their long-distance relationship work.
Katie & Blake Go Their Separate Ways
On October 25, Katie and Blake issued statements via their respective Instagram profiles announcing that they had ended their engagement and gone their separate ways. “It is with mutual love and respect that we have decided to go our separate ways. We are so grateful for the moments we shared together and the entire journey that has unfolded this year, but we ultimately have concluded that we are not compatible as life partners,” Katie and Blake, who had awkward first interaction, each wrote in the captions of two recent Instagram posts. They ended their statements by wishing nothing but the best for each other.
Even though Katie and Blake couldn’t make their relationship last, they did put in a solid effort. She even visited him in his hometown and he spent some time with her in San Diego. As it stands, this former The Bachelorette couple was cute while it lasted.
