Big Brother Location & Details About The House At CBS Studio Center

The fans have come to know every corner of the Big Brother house over the course of 22 seasons, but some viewers still don’t know the exact location of the BB house in the United States. When the first-ever season of Big Brother premiered on CBS, the network chose a pretty small sound stage to film the show. The original, one-story BB house was very different from what the fans have gotten to know over the years, and that’s the reason why season 1 star Chicken George was so lost in the house when he came back to compete on Big Brother 7: All-Stars.

It should be noted that the Big Brother house is not an actual house, of course, but a sound stage where a TV show can be filmed. As such, the “house”-like space where the contestants live does not take up the entire sound stage, as some room must be reserved for cameras and their operators, as well as production staffers working on the show behind all of those mirrors and walls. Within the sound stage, some room is also left for the “front of the house” where host Julie Chen narrates the episodes and greets evicted houseguests each passing week.

The Big Brother house has always been inside Stage 18 at the CBS Studio Center lot, which is located in Los Angeles. Originally, the one-story BB house seen between seasons 1 and 5 was in a smaller CBS sound stage. The show moved to its current location on Big Brother 6, introducing the fans to the two-story house/loft that they’ve gotten to know over the years. Overall, the CBS Studio Center lot takes up 40 acres of land. Stage 18 happens to be at one of the edges within the lot, which is why the series has had to deal with so many “wall yellers” over the years trying to give the players some information.

Long-time live feeders who have spent a significant amount of time looking inside the Big Brother house know that the players often hear noises coming from “behind the walls.” Such noise comes from production staffers working behind the scenes, as they move around the cameras, restock the pantry, set up competitions in the backyard, and more. Therefore, the BB houseguests are never actually alone in the house, even if it might feel like so.

The fans can’t wait to go back into this house once Big Brother 23 premieres in the summer of 2021. Hopefully, season 23 will feature some incredible gameplay between those walls.
