Big Mouth 5 Times Jessi Was A Great Girlfriend (& 5 She Was The Worst)

In the popular Netflix adult animated series Big Mouth, we follow a gang of middle schoolers and their struggles with puberty, relationships, and more. One of the main female characters of the show is Jessi Glaser, and she is known as the smart sporty girl who is dealing with her own real-life struggles as she deals with her parents divorcing. When it comes to relationships and love she is often unsure and constantly has trouble with keeping the flame going. But she has had her times where she was honestly a great girlfriend to the boyfriends that she has had, even though the relationships didn’t ultimately work out.

10 Great Girlfriend: Comforting Nick At The Dance

At the beginning of the first season, we learn that Jessi has a crush on Nick and when she hears that his date to the school dance is the most popular girl in school she gets upset and starts calling her different names in front of him but he doesn’t listen to her and goes anyways. When Nick arrives at the dance, his date is already there with someone else and when Jessi finds out she takes it upon herself to let him know that she is there for him even though she was right from the beginning and she gives him their first kiss which starts out their questioning of if they are now boyfriend and girlfriend.

9 The Worst: Confiding In Andrew Rather Than Nick

At the beginning of any new relationship, it is important to share things and be open with each other, even in the cartoon world. In the season one episode “Everybody Bleeds,” the gang goes on a school field trip to the Statue of Liberty shortly after Jessi and Nick decide to tell the school about their relationship but once they get there they decide to walk around with different people. Jessi finds out that she has started her period and only has Andrew to help her get all that she needs. Though this is a pretty understandable situation, it would have been pretty easy to just text Nick and let him know what was going on instead of hiding it from him!

8 Great Girlfriend: Sharing Funny Texts With Nick

When Nick and Jessi take their friendship to the next level in season one, they begin to start texting each other hilarious videos of animals and things that they know each other are interested in making their newfound relationship still have the sweet and friendly feelings.

Though this is a really small detail in their relationship, it is still an important one and shows how interested they are in each other even though things can feel a bit awkward at first!

7 The Worst: Telling Nick They Should Just Be Friends

Causing their relationship to run short, in the episode titled “Am I Gay?” Jessi and Nick go on a date and are having a hard time finding things to talk about which ultimately causes Jessi to go on and tell Nick that they were so much better as friends. Nick takes what she says completely wrong and thinks that they are still together and that their relationship is getting better, which is pretty heartbreaking.

6 Great Girlfriend: She Cares About Her & Nick’s Friendship

Although Jessi decides to break things off with Nick and just go back to being friends, she really shows that even though their relationship isn’t working out the way that they hoped she still cares a lot about him and wants them to have a good relationship even if it isn’t in a romantic way! Which is more than likely why when she told him that she wanted them to be friends instead of being real with him and just telling him that she was breaking up with him.

5 The Worst: Telling Nick He Has A Big Mouth

Shortly after Nick and Jessi break up, she hears that Nick is telling the entire school that he broke up with her instead of the truth. This causes a wave of huge anger in Jessi and causes her to call him names to make him feel bad about himself, one of the main things she says is that he has a big catfish mouth and this is what really sets the two off.

After their argument in front of the entire school, they decide to put aside their problems and just go back to being friends.

4 Great Girlfriend: Running Away With Jay

At Nick’s house party in the episode titled “The Head Push,” Jessi confides in Jay and the two end up kissing and talking about how bad their parents are to them and how horrible their lives are at home. They then decide that it would be best for the two of them to run away and start a new life together in a completely different town. Though this is a pretty risky way to start off a new relationship, it is a pretty big commitment to make as well especially for Jessi.

3 The Worst: Getting Upset At Jay For His Previous Relationship

Big Mouth 5 Times Jessi Was A Great Girlfriend (& 5 She Was The Worst)

After getting into any new relationship it is completely normal to talk about previous relationships and most would be comfortable talking about their past since it is the past, but not for Jessi. In the first episode of season two after Jessi and Jay decide to run away from their home lives and start a life together, they hop in the back of a pickup truck and somehow run into Jay’s old pillow girlfriend Pam and his son. Ultimately this makes Jessi super uncomfortable, but any normal girlfriend would be cool with it.

2 Great Girlfriend: She Was Understanding Of Jay’s Homelife

Big Mouth 5 Times Jessi Was A Great Girlfriend (& 5 She Was The Worst)

Jessi and Jay are probably the only two characters on the Netflix series who share some of the worst home life stories since Jay is often ignored by his entire family and Jessi’s parents divorced with her being ignored and pushed to the side. They have a lot in common and definitely share some sweet moments together because of their chemistry.

Although Jessi tries to hide her feelings for Jay because she thinks he’s odd and super weird, it’s easy to tell that they are pretty perfect together and share the same struggles.

1 The Worst: Wanting To Hide Her Relationship Status

Throughout Jessi and Jay’s entire relationship she makes it pretty clear to him and to everyone else that she doesn’t want them to know that they are together. Jay constantly tells her that he wants her to be known as his “very serious girlfriend” since he is constantly ignored and has a horrible home life aside from her and his friends. Her wanting to keep their relationship a secret was definitely a big red flag that their relationship would not last too long!
