Blink182’s Most Iconic Album Art Recreated In Stunning Comic Cover

The rock band, Blink-182’s most iconic album art has been recreated for the cover of indie comic Ninjas & Robots. The series follows a group of ninjas in training as they learn the secrets of the trade in an otherwise normal school. Just like in an average school, the nurse’s office can be a place of solace away from the buzz of day-to-day life, but only if the right nurse is scheduled. Using inspiration from the cover from Blink-182’s album “Enema of the State”, Ninjas & Robots sets the stage for that issue’s particular storyline.

Ninjas & Robots #11 by Erik Klaus and Matt Young published by KeenSpot replaces the usual drama of ninjas vs robots as well as other malevolent monsters and replaces the antagonist with an equally scary force. While hoping to find solace in the nurse’s office between classes at their ninja training school Shinobi School, the student protagonists are hoping to find Nurse Ja’Nine who evidently doesn’t mind students taking a break in her presence. However, with their plan comes some anxiety as it depends on Nurse Ja’Nine being scheduled that day, and not the terrifying Nurse Malice.

When an indie comic writer and artist are working together on their next book with the main focus being a school nurse, the image of Blink-182’s iconic “Enema of the State” album is the perfect picture to use to present that story. Not only did Klaus and Young use the image on the album, but paid tribute to the model in their story. The nice nurse the students hope to see is named Nurse Ja’Nine and the model on the cover of Blink-182’s album is named Janine Lindemolder, an apparent tribute to the band’s original choice for the picture.

Aside from the iconic artwork and the tribute paid to the model, Blink-182 is a perfect band to think of when reading Ninjas & Robots. The indie series brings to life a punky and more underground side of comics that haven’t popped up as frequently since the ‘90s and Blink-182 brings a pop-punk voice to non-conformists of all ages. Seemingly inspired by The Mask, Tank Girl, or Love and Rockets, Ninjas & Robots gives fans the same unconventional style one could not find from any mainstream publisher such as Marvel or DC.

Ninjas & Robots #11 uses Blink-182’s iconic cover to better convey the tone, style, and storyline of their issue while also paying tribute to the cover’s original model. Blink-182 decided to use Janine Lindemolder for their original cover because she was a fairly well-known adult film actress of that time, a decision made to assuredly keep up their pop-punk image.
