Boba Fett Director Acts Out Barbarian Fight Scene In Star Wars Set Image

Director Robert Rodriguez was shown acting out a barbarian fight scene in a set image for The Book of Boba Fett. The Star Wars series is directed by Rodriguez along with The Mandalorian alum Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni. It will see the return of Temuera Morrison as the titular bounty hunter. The series will star Morrison, along with Ming-Na Wen and Jennifer Beals. It is set to premiere on December 29 on Disney+.

The Book of Boba Fett picks up where The Mandalorian’s season 2 post-credit scene ended with Boba Fett usurping the underworld throne from gangster Bib Fortuna on Tattooine and growing a criminal empire. With the help of Ming-Na Wen’s Fennec Shand, The Book of Boba Fett will see a return to violent form for the iconic bounty hunter. The new show chronicles Fett’s violent takeover from Bib Fortuna, who seized power after the death of Jabba the Hutt, and re-organizing Jabba’s crime syndicate after Fortuna left it in somewhat of a mess.

In some behind-the-scenes images from Empire, one of the series’ directors, Robert Rodriguez, wields heavy weaponry, acting out one of the fight scenes that will appear in the series, most likely showing the actors how to wield the weapons. The image hints at a more violent lifestyle for the bounty hunter that Rodriguez confirmed in an interview.

“We’ll see a lot more of his true character in this season. And you’ll definitely see him have to turn ‘barbarian mode.'”

The above image teases a darker and more violent bounty hunter than in The Mandalorian, as he digs his heels into the criminal underworld of the Star Wars universe. This particular scene was teased in the Book of Boba Fett trailer (around the 1:20 mark), showing a violent confrontation between Fett and what may be some Ithorian guards. It seems like this moment unfolds as Boba and Fennec are surrounded, leading to a showdown between the heroes and their attackers. In the trailer, the brief snippets of the fight reveal Boba in what Rodriguez calls “barbarian mode,” as the bounty hunter brutal bashes one of these guards while screaming in rage. Fett’s reappearance in The Mandalorian season 2 reinvigorated the character and showed his heroic side, but even in that appearance, Fett unleashed his barbarian side when attacked by Stormtroopers on Tython.

The trailers tease a gritty gangster genre piece from The Book of Boba Fett, and it seems devoted followers of the character can be comfortable knowing it is in good hands. Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau have both invested a lot of time into the Disney+ series, along with Star Wars: The Clone Wars, The Bad Batch, and The Mandalorian, along with a slate of upcoming Star Wars series. Robert Rodriguez directed episode 6 of season 2 of The Mandalorian and has movies like Sin City and Machete under his belt. So, fans can expect an exciting, darker take on the Star Wars Universe when The Book of Boba Fett premieres on Disney+ on December 29.
