Bobs Burgers Actor Reportedly Banned From Show For Attending Capitol Riot

Bob’s Burgers follows the adventures of the Belcher family, who run a burger restaurant in a small and bizarre town somewhere in North-East America. The show, now in its 12th season, is renowned for its running gags, pun-heavy hallmarks and musical moments, all of which help Bob’s Burgers stand out from its contemporaries. The brainchild of Loren Bouchard, the show stars Archer voice actor H. Jon Benjamin as the titular Bob, with Bob’s wife, Linda, played by John Roberts and the couple’s children, Tina, Gene and Louise, voiced by Dan Mintz, Eugene Mirman and Kristen Schaal, respectively. Jim Dauterive also serves as the show’s producer, after previously working on legendary animates show King of the Hill.

But, despite the popularity of his character, Johnston is no longer involved with Bob’s Burgers following the revelation of his involvement with the January 6th Capitol riots in which five people lost their lives. According to The Daily Beast, two sources have confirmed that Johnston had been removed from Bob’s Burgers, with Johnston’s sacking described as a ban from the show. The Daily Beast also report they have reached out to Fox and Disney, but neither would comment on the situation, with one of the sources saying that Fox and Bob’s Burgers cast and crew are not looking to make a “big deal” out of Johnston’s removal.

While never confirmed that photos taken at the riots were Johnston, several of the actor’s co-stars from other projects have tweeted in the past that the pictures do indeed show the Bob’s Burgers voice actor attending the attack on the capitol. Johnston’s removal from the show would also explain his absence from the show’s 12th season. With only two episodes left, it looks increasingly unlikely that Bob’s Burgers season 12 will include an appearance from Pesto, marking the first time the prominent secondary character has not made at least one appearance during a season throughout the show’s entire run.

Regardless of Johnston’s ousting, Bob’s Burgers popularity can’t be slowed, with season 13 already greenlit and the Bob’s Burgers Movie still slated for May 2022 release. But, while it appears that Bouchard and co. are still working out how to move the character forward without Johnston, it’s unlikely Bob’s biggest competition won’t return with a new voice actor taking over the mantle. Whether that will happen before the show’s next season airs remains to be seen, but for now, Bob’s Burgers season 12’s next episode, which is coincidentally the seasons Christmas episode, airs on December 19th.
