Book Of Boba Fett Can Payoff A Cancelled Clone Wars Storyline

With the upcoming release of The Book of Boba Fett on Disney Plus, Lucasfilm has the opportunity to pay homage to a canceled arc from Star Wars: The Clone Wars featuring the legendary bounty hunter. While there were a handful of episodes in the animated series that saw a young Fett making his way in the universe, there was one arc that would have cemented Fett’s reputation and evolution into the legend he becomes by the time of the original trilogy of Star Wars films, had The Clone Wars series not been canceled before the episodes were fully produced.

During the Clone Wars era, Cad Bane was the galaxy’s most legendary bounty hunter, and this arc, in particular, would have seen Bane and young Fett meeting one another in earnest, working a job together on Tatooine to save a young child from a band of Tusken Raiders. However, this arc would have also been a sort of passing of the torch, seeing Bane offering some key pieces of advice, as the reveal would have been made that Bane had a history with Boba’s father Jango Fett.

Additionally, pre-production story reels revealed that Boba Fett and Cad Bane would have eventually been at odds, and would have eventually challenged once another to a duel. While they both ended up shooting each other at the same time, Fett was clearly was the victor as he would go on to continue his career as a bounty hunter with an all new reputation. He also would have received the classic dent in his helmet that would have come from Bane’s blaster. Now, the new Disney+ series could potentially bring this arc and the details within it back into the official canon, either by way of flashbacks or just by referencing Boba Fett’s partnership with the one and only Cad Bane.

The Book of Boba Fett spinoff from The Mandalorian can potentially payoff this abandoned arc in a couple of different ways. Firstly, it could reveal Boba Fett’s evolution into a legend with Cad Bane by way of flashbacks, which would certainly be a dynamic choice all things considered. Actor Daniel Logan, who played young Boba in Star Wars Episode II- Attack of the Clones (and voiced the character in The Clone Wars) has said that he’d be willing to come back for the series, which would no doubt be very exciting. Alternatively, it would still be satisfying if the events of this unfinished arc were even just referenced in some way. Furthermore, the new series could just as well rework some of the elements from the canceled arc for this later timeline. For example, Boba could very well make a similar attempt to save a child from Tusken Raiders in the days after The Mandalorian’s second season. After all, Fett’s return to Star Wars in The Mandalorian did see him helping Din Djarin rescue Grogu.

In any case, Lucasfilm certainly has a great opportunity to finally integrate one of the greatest Boba Fett stories that was never truly told, should they choose to do so. While there are plenty more avenues for Boba Fett’s future in The Book of Boba Fett, it would be incredible for the series to look back to the past as well, finally confirming how Boba Fett gained the impressive reputation he did as the galaxy’s most infamous and legendary bounty hunter.
