One innovative The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild player has recreated the Divine Beasts in-game using weaponry. At the time of publication, they have designed all the Beasts seen in-game. The art was created using a duplication glitch.

The Divine Beasts are Breath of the Wild’s replacement for more traditional Zelda dungeons. They appear as titanic mechanical creatures, each associated with one of the races that populate Hyrule. Link is tasked with retaking them from a manifestation of Ganon’s corrupting Blight through a combination of combat and solving puzzles. Each Divine Beast is also based on a specific animal, giving each of them an instantly recognizable design. Additionally, hieroglyphic-style representations of the Beasts can be found throughout the game, most notably in the loading screen, where each one appears after it is conquered in-game.

Reddit user Chicken_Vomit_ has been using elemental weapons to recreate these simplified designs in-game. Their most popular creation is Vah Naboris, the elephant Divine Beast found in the Lanyru region. Unlike future creations, they did not keep track of how many weapons were used. However, some mathematicians in the comments counted around 105 Great Iceblades were used. The posts have gone over well, with the Vah Naboris post receiving over 11 thousand upvotes in a little over a day. In the comments, the poster also explained that Iceblades would be used to make Vah Medoh. Unfortunately, there were no suitable wind weapons that would not crash the game. Chicken_Vomit_ also clarified why the duplication glitch was needed. Duplicated weapons have different properties than dropped weapons – namely, no collision and larger despawn distances. Both of these proved instrumental in making the Divine Beasts.

While obviously not what Breath of the Wild was meant for, these types of sandbox creations are nothing new. The powerful physics engine and easy duplication glitch give creative types the opportunity to push the game to its limits in all manner of creative ways. This style of post also acts as a tribute to how beloved the game is, and how players are constantly finding new ways to occupy their time in this rendition of Hyrule.

The unnamed Breath of the Wild sequel’s recent trailer showcased several new abilities for Link, all of which promote unique exploration and creative uses of the world. Creations like Chicken_Vomit_’s have a very real possibility of becoming all the more common when the sequel is available to the public. For now, these acts of creativity will continue being shared with others, showing off just how versatile and treasured Breath of the Wild is among players.
