Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s main cast have had many love interests throughout the series’ seven season run. Some, like Captain Raymond Holt and Sergeant Terry Jeffords, have been in steady relationships from the beginning. The rest began the show single, and have had many romantic ups and downs.

The seeds of the relationship between Jake and Amy, the show’s central couple, were planted early on in season one. In typical sitcom fashion, the two went through a will-they/won’t-they phase, which led to some other couplings that expanded the series’ cast of characters and stories, but that always seemed doomed to fail.

10 Charles And Rosa

Charles has a major crush on Rosa at the start of the series. His feelings are completely unrequited, however, and so most of their romance consists of his one-sided fawning over her. Charles makes a lot of awkward comments that alert everyone to how he’s feeling and weird Rosa out a bit.

The two are coworkers and friends, and Charles is a nice guy, so they agree to remain purely friendly and Charles eventually just moves on.

9 Jake And Dr. Rossi

Jake Peralta meets Dr. Rossi when she’s working as the medical examiner on a case he’s working on. He takes her on a date, and they share a brief connection. She fails to do an autopsy she was supposed to do for the case because she was out with Jake.

It turns out she’s pretty into necrophilia, which creeps him out, but not enough to stop seeing her right away. Their relationship mainly serves to offer up a funny plot for one episode, as it’s clear from the start that it won’t be a long-term thing.

8 Charles And Vivian

Charles hooks up with Vivian at a party at Captain Holt’s house. He’s so swept up in his new romance that his whole demeanor has changed. He’s much happier and more confident than usual. His excitement begins to concern Jake, however, when he realizes that Charles is going “Full Boyle”- taking things in the relationship too far, too fast.

This is the first woman he’s had strong feelings for since getting over his crush on Rosa, and he can’t control himself. It turns out that she’s just as over the top as he is, and she accepts his swift proposal. They run into trouble right before the wedding, when Charles realizes that he is being pushed into choices he isn’t comfortable making. They break off the wedding, and later on end things for good.

7 Amy And Teddy

Amy reconnects with Teddy at a work function. He shares her nerdiness and sensitivity, and they get along well. However, this connection comes in the midst of Jake and Amy’s will-they-won’t-they, which is obviously meant to be endgame.

Teddy is just a detour for Amy, and is a way of forcing Jake to realize his feelings. He does reappear in several later episodes, becoming slightly unhinged and obsessed with Amy after she breaks up with him.

6 Charles And Gina

Charles’ and Gina’s shocking hookup comes on the heels of his breakup with Vivian. They both regret sleeping together, but enjoy it nonetheless and so continue their affair for a time. They never develop romantic feelings for one another. Instead, this pairing is played purely for laughs, which doubles when their parents start dating.

Luckily, their brief entanglement doesn’t really change much in their friendship, save for the occasional awkward reference Charles is wont to make.

5 Jake And Sophia

Jake started seeing Sophia in the middle of the whole Jake and Amy debacle. Just as Jake was realizing his feelings for Amy, she started going out with Teddy. Jake was bummed, but forged a connection with Sophia, a lawyer.

The whole cop-lawyer dynamic made for some interesting conflict and some funny scenarios, but it was always clear that this wasn’t going to be endgame. Teddy and Sophia were both pleasant pit stops on the way to the Jake and Amy relationship fans were waiting for.

4 Rosa And Marcus

Marcus and Rosa were cute while they lasted. It was especially fun to see the emotionally closed-off Rosa navigate dating the relative of her equally closed-off boss, Captain Holt. Rosa and Marcus liked each other for a bit, but their personalities were too different to allow for a lasting romance.

If fans thought it was awkward (in an enjoyable way, of course) to see Rosa tell Holt that she was going out with his nephew, it was even more awkward to watch her tell him her plans to dump said nephew. This made for a great plot, with Holt trying to help Rosa let Marcus down easy.

3 Charles And Lieutenant Singh

Okay, so these two were less of a relationship and more of a hookup. However, they clearly weren’t meant to last, so they make the list. When a captain dies, the precinct must show their support for his family and pay their respects at his funeral.

At the funeral is Lieutenant Singh, a beautiful woman with whom Charles has a brief and passionate fling. Things quickly get out of hand, and she isn’t seen or heard from again on the show. Nevertheless, this makes for a fun side plot in an otherwise Jake-and-Amy-centered episode.

2 Rosa And Pimento

Brooklyn NineNine 10 Relationships That Fans Knew Were Doomed From The Start

Adrian Pimento’s character was so enjoyable, the writers apparently thought he should be brought on as a reoccurring guest. This was a great decision, as his character is a hilarious standout, even among an already great cast. He and Rosa Diaz have intense, extreme personalities, which led them to one another. They quickly got engaged, before calling off the wedding. They then planned another wedding, but got cold feet and decided not to get married.

They had an amusing, secretive, and intensely sexual relationship, which provided the show with many funny storylines. However, it was never played as a serious thing, and their breakup luckily hasn’t led to the end of Pimento showing up from time to time on the show.

1 Rosa And Jocelyn

Rosa’s next steady relationship after Pimento was with Jocelyn, a hairstylist. Things seemed fine between the two, and Rosa was happy in the relationship, but the fact that Jocelyn remained such an elusive, one-dimensional presence on the show made it clear that it probably wouldn’t last.

This time, it’s Rosa who gets her heart broken. Her focus on her work leads to strain in her relationship, which the two apparently couldn’t overcome, as Rosa reveals to Captain Holt that Jocelyn has ended things.
