Brooklyn Nine-Nine: The 10 Worst Things Amy & Holt Did To Each Other

Though Amy and Holt respect one another enormously, it has to be said that they’ve been capable of doing some bad things to one another as well.

Even though there are many important relationships in the sitcom Brooklyn Nine-Nine, there’s no question that the one between Holt and Amy is the most important. While Amy looks up to Holt as an authority (and father) figure, Holt also sees something of himself in Amy, and he does everything that he can to help her become the best detective she can be.

However, as good as they are for one another, there have been several times during the course of the seasons of the show where they have shown themselves capable of doing bad things to one another.

10 Amy Tries To Act Out Like Jake

As much as she is a striver and an achiever, Amy also shows that she’s also a very jealous person, and that is especially true when it comes to her relationship with Holt. In fact, she’s so jealous that she starts to act out like Jake.

Although she clearly does it just to get the attention from Holt, the truth is that doing so also makes his life as a Captain much more difficult, demonstrating that her own desires tend to trump other considerations. Her desire to please everyone no matter the cost is also one of the saddest things about Amy’s character.

9 When Amy Accidentally Says That She Can’t Wait For Holt To Get Another Death Threat

If Amy has one prominent character flaw, it’s in her being overeagerness (which has led to some epic meltdowns on her part). All too often, this also leads to her saying (and doing) things that she would later come to regret. In this particular case, in her yearning to be Holt’s bodyguard, she blurts out that she can’t wait for him to get a death threat again.

Obviously, this is a moment that is intended to be funny, but it nevertheless shows that Amy is, at times, more obsessed with getting what she wants no matter how much it might impact Captain Holt’s physical well-being.

8 Amy Invades Holt’s Personal Space At His Home

While Amy’s admiration for Holt is one of the most endearing and heart-warming parts of the Brooklyn Nine-Nine and its characters, it sometimes leads her to do things that go very far past the borders of acceptability.

This particular note is the moment when she actually invades Holt’s home and snoops through his things. It’s a very funny moment but, considering how much Holt values his privacy and his home, Amy’s actions reflect very poorly on her judgment and make fans wonder how much she truly understands Holt and his values.

7 Amy Appointed Holt Executor Of Her Will

Given just how much Amy tries to plan almost every aspect of her life, it’s not surprising that she would also make sure that she had her death planned out as well. In this case, she went the extra mile by appointing Captain Holt as the executor of her will.

However, given that they weren’t exactly close friends and didn’t know each other well, it is rather presumptuous of her to assume that Captain Holt would also want to undertake the onerous task of being the executor of her estate. It was something that she should have asked first.

6 Holt Denies Jake And Amy More Cases Because He’s Afraid The Bet Will Have Negative Fallout

Even though Holt clearly values his detectives and sees how valuable Jake and Amy are, that doesn’t mean that he isn’t willing to refuse them. In this case, he refuses to assign either of them new cases out of fear that the bet will disrupt their approach.

While this is perhaps understandable given how over-enthusiastic the two of them can get, it also shows a remarkable lack of faith on Holt’s part, especially given that he knows how good Amy is at her job.

5 Holt Uses Amy’s Admiration Of Him To Manipulate Her

Although he is, as a rule, a very honorable guy who tries to take the high road, there are times when Holt reveals a different, more cynical side to his personality.

In one particular instance, he uses Amy’s obvious admiration (and hero-worship of him) to get information out of her that she should have kept to herself. It’s not Holt’s finest moment, and it shows that he is sometimes willing to sacrifice his ethical code when he thinks that he might be able to get something out of it.

4 Amy Gives Holt Street Meat

For the most part, Amy shows that she’s the type of person who doesn’t like to take unnecessary risks (it’s part of the reason that Amy’s one of the heroes of Brooklyn Nine-Nine).

There are times, however, when her judgment abandons her, which is exactly what happens when she gives Captain Holt street meat. Even though this is one of those moments when she does something bad to him unintentionally, that doesn’t mitigate the fact that she causes him quite a lot of discomfort because of her actions.

3 Holt Doesn’t Want To Tell Amy About The Mentorship Until Day 3300

It’s very clear that Amy looks up to Holt as a mentor and that she does everything with an eye to both impressing him and also becoming more like her. Even though Holt knows this, however, he still conceals from her the fact that he’s been mentoring her the whole time.

It’s a sweet moment when he reveals this but, given that Holt should have known how much this would mean to Amy, it’s unfortunate that he hadn’t seen fit to tell her about it sooner.

2 Amy Fawns All Over Holt Until He’s Uncomfortable

During the early seasons of the series, Amy takes things to an extreme degree in trying to impress Holt, mostly by fawning all over him. While some of this is played for laughs, the fact that it so clearly makes the Captain uncomfortable makes it feel like something that Amy, who supposedly admires him so much, should pay attention to and respect.

The fact that she doesn’t do so makes her admiration seem more about her than it does him, and it leads her to make him miserable.

1 Holt Focuses On Jake And Dismisses Amy

On the flip side of that dynamic, Holt tends to focus almost all of his energy and attention on Jake and dismisses or ignores Amy in the earlier seasons. This is a problem for two reasons.

First, it allows Holt to ignore the fact that Amy is clearly a better detective than Jake and that her skills are just as valuable. Second, it undercuts her confidence in herself and, given that Holt knows how much she admires him, one would expect him to be more sensitive to her needs.
