Call of Duty: Warzone launched its fourth season on June 17. As with previous seasons, this provided new gameplay features and continued Warzone’s ongoing narrative in conjunction with Call of Duty: Black Ops – Cold War. Warzone has already undergone four patches since then, with a more major “Season 4 Reloaded” update planned for the middle of the season, sometime in mid-July. The most recent Warzone update on June 30 only tweaked aspects of gameplay, making things slightly harder for players dropping into Verdansk.

The most exciting addition Season 4 brought to Warzone was likely the mysterious red doors that appeared throughout the map, which transported players to various locations in Verdansk (though the red door phenomenon was also responsible for Warzone’s unfortunate killer door glitch). Season 4 also added fallen satellites, a dirt bike and nail gun weapon.

The first three Warzone Season 4 patches fixed bugs and added or tweaked elements to improve player experience. All of the updates in the June 30 patch, however, were focused on in-game weapons or their attachments. At first glance, the updates make weapons less effective or harder to use, though the Call of Duty: Warzone team theorized the changes will make the game more fair and engaging.

Two assault rifles, the C58 and the FARA 83, saw slight recoil increases. The nail gun, meanwhile, became much less lethal, as its range was reduced by 39%. Warzone developer Raven Software explained in the patch notes that the nail gun was designed to contest the shotgun, dealing high damage at close range. However, because of the weapon’s distance capacity, players were able to use the nail gun to consistently eliminate shotgun-wielding opponents. Its now-reduced range should make combat against shotguns fairer.

Several barrel attachments were also nerfed in the Warzone Season 4 update, largely centered around recoil control. The assault rifle Ranger barrel’s vertical recoil control has been reduced from 15% to 10%, as has the Takedown’s horizontal recoil control. Also reduced from 15% to 10% are the Task Force/Spetsnaz RPK/CMV Mil-Spec’s vertical and horizontal recoil control. Reinforced Heavy/Match Grade/VDV Reinforced barrels only suffered a 2.5%, from 7.5% to 5%. Raven Software provided comment on these changes as well, saying it wanted to create a journey of mastery for players, and gradually making weapons more difficult to use will keep players engaged. In theory, this should help players maintain interest in Call of Duty: Warzone.
